Enlightenment was a form movement that occurred in Europe. It took place between the
17th century and the 19th century. It advocated for the use of reason instead of simply following
traditions and rules set up in the society. During this time, writers used satire to criticize the evils
in the society by use of irony, exaggeration, ridicule and humor. This enlightened people on the
evils practiced in the society.
There is use of satire in Oroonoko’s novel. After Oroonoko kills his wife, the settlers
