One of the most important communication barriers that come to my mind is the language barriers. I think this barrier becomes more trouble making when the spoken language is the second language for both parties. I mean if I speak English improperly, an English speaker can understand my meaning but maybe it will be more difficult for a person with another mother tongue to understand my meaning. I have experienced the second situation in my previous job. I worked with Chinese, Korean, Thai, and Vietnamese people and most of our work was through emails. Since English was the second language of both parties, there was always the possibility of misunderstandings. To prevent such misunderstanding, firstly I tried to convey my message as simple as possible, and secondly, I used some drawings in my emails to make it more tangible and understandable. And if we had meetings with each other, I used other ways such as body language to transfer my message.
The other communication barrier that I have experienced by myself is a lack of self-confidence. When someone lacks the self-confidence to communicate, it acts like an obstacle for him/her to communicate. I had been in the same situation 5 or 6 years ago when I attended meetings with other managers and board of directors for the first time. It was like the fear of communicating. I was afraid of making mistakes and vibrating my voice tone. I overcame my weak point with my manager’s help who always induced me to attend those meetings and speak. Moreover, I made a lot of notes before going to the meeting that helped me to earn my self-confidence.
Finally, what we saw in the video is all about sometimes we need a person who acts as a good listener instead of giving us some solutions. Sometimes we just need someone who shows us empathy and nothing more. Unfortunately, most of us don’t know when to take which approach.

Hi all, I want to share my personal experience when i came to canada, my first job is at 7-eleven as a sales associate. In the beginning it was very hard me to understand the acent of my coworkers (some of them are phillipnes and chinese) and sometime the customers as well because i am from different country and speaking style was different. Innitially it very difficult for me to understand when they are giving me the training about my responsiblities in the store. But within few weeks when i copeup with all things and once the communication barriers are became less then we started sharing the ideas about deals or other sales techniques within the stores. In last 2 years i have learned about work culture and i think if we have to successed in life we have to learn few things such as Listen, understand and then adapt. All this is possible only with communication.

In my opinion, when you live in a multinational country, in addition to language as the first barrier to communication with others, culture is also an effective factor that makes it difficult for you to communicate with others. In some cultures, the communication between men and women is limited, for example, they try to avoid eye contact, and in another culture, this is far from polite. In the early months of my first job in Canada, despite the fact that most of my colleagues were Persian-speaking like me, I spoke English to them according to the law at the workplace and used a nickname that is easier to pronounce.
Some of the supervisors did not realize for a long time that I am a Persian because they had not seen me speak in Farsi. But the truth was that they did not see me talking even in English because I was afraid to talk to my colleagues due to my fear and I only talked to them when I had a question. What scared me was that I did not know what I could talk to them about. Is it like my own country or have they changed over the years by living in Canada? I had no idea about other cultures, especially Brazilian and Mexican. But the positive energy I received from all my co-workers reassured me that they were all lovable people and that I wanted to connect with them.
One day one of my Brazilian colleagues was sitting alone in the lunchroom and was very upset. I did not know if I could ask him what had happened or if I could help him. Is this acceptable in his culture that a stranger asks this type of question in the workplace? On the other hand, I could not pass by her indifferently. I decided to ask herself, can I ask these questions? When I asked her, she looked at me in surprise and repeated my questions, making sure I asked what she understood. When I confirmed, she said with a laugh, "Yes, Yes, of course," and began to tell her story. I tried to manage the conversation with the three rules that my former manager taught me to be a good listener. The first rule is, to be honest, and kind, the second rule is to ask open-ended questions in a way that the answer not be just yes or no, and the third rule is to acknowledge the words, even by shaking your head or looking. That day passed, and with a similar experience I had in Canada, I introduced her to an immigration counsellor. From that day on, I decided to use every opportunity to learn about their culture instead of being afraid to communicate with them, and thank God they were very eager to talk about their culture, and I'm glad to hear from them. As for my Iranian colleagues, I listened to their conversations for a while and tried to understand the boundaries and act according to them.

Communication is an essential aspect of life; however, most individuals find it hard to
communicate because of communication barriers. Several reasons lead to a communication
barrier, with the most significant one being a second language problem (Jenifer & Raman, 2015).
It is vital to note that people speak different languages; however, society has a common
language. For instance, English maybe be a common language among many people, but most
find it challenging to speak fluently. Although I might have pronunciation problems while
speaking English, an English man will still understand something that may be hard for someone
else who might be from China, Korea, or Thailand. However, people who find themselves in
such a situation can still communicate with colleagues or peers through expressions such as
drawing, body language, or simplifying their communication mode (Jenifer & Raman, 2015).
Lack of self-confidence is another issue that leads to communication barriers. Often, I
lack self-confidence, especially when attending meetings for the first time, accompanied by a
board of directors and managers. During such meetings, I find it challenging to communicate
because of fear; however, my manager would encourage me to attend the meetings and offer
speeches to overcome my fear (Jenifer & Raman, 2015). Moreover, the drafting of notes that I
would use during the forum played a significant role in boosting my confidence.
It is vital not that listening to other people's views is essential; thus, one should not be
quick in giving solutions. By listening, you might establish that the individuals you aim at
assisting wanted something different from what you were planning on giving them. However,
individuals are not aware of this concept.
Working in a new place where the language is different is always challenging for many
individuals. It is because of the language barrier brought about by colleagues and customers

(Jenifer & Raman, 2015). The problem of communication makes the orientation process
difficult, affecting work performance (Jenifer & Raman, 2015). Nonetheless, individuals enhance
their communication skills through constant communication, thus improving their respective
departments' performance and productivity. Such success can be achieved if individuals within
the organization understand work culture that entails listening, understanding, and adapting to
the environment, facilitated by good communication.
