The literature review focuses on how other researchers have addressed similar questions. It places the study in context and discusses how it will differentiate itself from what is already in the field. You are attempting to establish what the literature says, and where the gap exists that you plan to fill with your project. You may find help at http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/tutorials/litreview/. Please make sure not to "stack" sources. Weave each source into the relevance of your project and each other. Group the literature by themes and use headings. This is NOT an annotated bibliography and should not be written like on.

Your literature review should rely strictly on scholarly material to include government publications and peer reviewed journal articles. Using websites or news/media articles is NOT acceptable.

  • paper must be at a minimum of 10-15 pages (the Title and Reference pages do not count towards the minimum limit).

  • Type in Times New Roman, 12 point and double space.
  • Students will follow the current APA Style as the sole citation and reference style used in written work submitted as part of coursework.
  • Can NOT use Wikipedia or encyclopedic type sources. It is highly advised to utilize books, peer-reviewed journals, articles, archived documents, etc.

US BORDER WALL LITERATURE REVIEW

Introduction
There has been a series of concerns about the United States of America security issues,
especially at the southern border. This concern has led to the United States president to request
intense security within this border. One of the suggested solutions is the creation of the border
wall. Creating this wall has brought various opinions within the population and even the
government, mainly because the concept was a key issue during political campaigns. Two
categories of thoughts emerged as a result of this: opposers and supporters of the border wall.
Despite all these arguments and discussions, the border wall had already been constructed
along a hundred miles of the southern border. It, therefore, brings up the question of whether the
longwall has realized its desired benefits or not. In a case where the wall has been significant,
more walls would be erected. However, if it has not been very beneficial, there would be no
other wall construction.
The scenario is rather complicated since it is not easy to get answers to these questions.
Government officials and scholars are on both sides of the discussion, making it hard to arrive at
the correct answer. Therefore, it is better to examine the effects of the ecurrent border wall and
view results to the creation of a new border wall, as suggested by the president of the United
States. It is also essential no to forget the coastlines; this is one area that many have not thought
about. Will the increased security within the dry land borders make the coastlines more
vulnerable?

US BORDER WALL LITERATURE REVIEW

There were increased national security levels just after the September 11, 2001, terrorist
attack. The department of Homeland Security (DHS) was established during this period through
Homeland Security act of 2002. The act put 22 various government agencies controlled by DHS
and immigration were majorly dealing with terrorism and security issues. During the year 1990,
there was the authorization of the fencing of the US- Mexico border. The majority of congress
happily commended more fencing and upgrading.
Between 1996 and 2006, the yearly cost of constructing the border walls moved from $25
million up to $1.5 billion. In the year 2018, President Trump signed about & 1.6 billion to be
used in the construction of a big border wall that would cover about 102 miles long. The building
was to begin within the same year. All these indicate that when the US was increasingly getting
concerned over porous borders and terrorism, the funds' appropriation in securing borders also
increased. Such a scenario makes establishing the effectiveness and benefits of the border harder,
especially when putting the cost of construction in the picture. Even though they can be reduced
drug smuggling, illegal activities, and illegal migration due to border walls construction, there
could be increased such movements through the sea.
This literature review comprises a number of government documents, congregational
testimonies, and some scholarly work categorized into three sections. The first section looks at
the discussion of those in support of the United States border wall. The second part examines
arguments from people opposing the construction of the border wall. These include people who
either feel the building is not worth the cost or the wall itself is not effective. The third part looks
at the experts' opinion of the importance of the US’ maritime border security.

US BORDER WALL LITERATURE REVIEW

Construction of the border wall has attracted many supports, including that of Homeland
Security’s former Secretary. The former Secretary, John Kelly reported to the congress in April
2017 stating that there are chances that more walls would be built since the physical barriers
work. He was not the only one in support of construction of the border wall; Elaine Duke,
Homeland Security former acting secretary, argued that the construction of the walls in the
southern border would save numerous blameless lives.
She further said that the success of the border wall i...
