Write a 400-500 word press release providing information about an existing Corporate Social Responsibility initiative in a real organization. Your press release should be written as if you were the media relations specialist from the organization. This press release should not be a copy of an existing press release. Try writing for an organization with a little known or under-recognized CSR initiative: how can you interest the media in this initiative with your press release?

Remember that a press release should be informational but engaging. With your press release, you are trying to convince a member of the media that your organization’s initiative is newsworthy. This press release should present a story that has the potential to be expanded into a news item of any length. It should include relevant information about the organization, its values and goals, as well as specific details about what events or issues connected to the CSR have the potential to make the initiative newsworthy. You may want to include quotes from potential spokespeople and contact information for follow-up. This press release should also include all of the key formal parts of a press release:

• headline and subheading
• dateline
• body: lede, key details and figures
• quotes and background from relevant spokespeople
• boilerplate
• contact information

A note on references: Because this is not an academic paper, you should not provide a list of works cited or references. However, it is important that you give credit to your sources in the text of your work in order to ensure that your reader trusts that your claims are credible and reliable. Your sources of information should be described with enough detail that a curious journalist would know where you are pulling your key facts from, whether it is a research paper from a respected scholar, market research completed internally at your organization, or reports from reputable news outlets.
