Question description

According to images from the text, consider how have modern artists have explored the effects of globalization in art. Then, do a google or bing search for ArtPrize, an international competition for artists held each year in Grand Rapids, MI.

THEN, Answer the following questions:

  • How do you see this as an example of both globalization and modern art, or is it?
  • Does public voting give a clear indication of the value or public appeal of piece of artwork? Why or why not?
  • How does hosting an art competition of this size benefit not only the artist community, but the community at large?
  • Now, complete this for discussion – have fun with it! YOU are an ArtPrize competitor. Come up with an idea for a work of art. Money, materials, physics and logistics are not an object. Think of what you would do, if you could do anything you wanted. This is your opportunity to be as creative and outrageous as you wish. Describe your piece of art. What materials are used to build it? Location? Size and/or scale?  How is it displayed? Does it have political or social content? What does it represent or mean, if anything? How do you hope the audience interacts with the piece, if at all? Give it a title.
