Description

1. Obtain a scholarly nursing journal on Innovation and Change in Clinical Nursing Practice or Nursing Education. Download the article (you will post it for your peers to review). There are several articles in the resources for the class.

2. Write your Literature Review (almost like an abstract), summarizing the key concepts presented in the article (you do not need to report statistical findings or elaborate on the type of research conducted). Identify the change process model used. - do not describe the model. (Example: The change process used was Lewin's Model of Change.)

Make sure to identify the (1) problem/need for change/rationale for change, (2) the setting (practice or education) identified, and (3) how the results/findings could be implemented in the identified setting. Limit to 1-3 paragraphs- quality over quantity!

3. Attach the article to your discussion post

1. After reviewing the article, identify 3 salient (relevant) points presented in the article in terms of the change proposed and the setting for the change, include a rationale/evidence for each point. For example, if you review an article about the implementation of simulation in nursing education to simulate clinical preparedness, you might conclude that: According to __________ (year), 65% nursing students in the study reported that simulation helped them learn psychomotor tasks better than the classroom environment and they felt more prepared when performing those skills in the clinical setting. When the simulation has been included in the curriculum at Stratford, it helped me feel better prepared and more confident during the clinical for the course....

2. then, Identify the change process/model used to implement the change.

  • Identify the steps in the change process. (Example, The change process used was Lewin's Model of Change. The three steps of the model are one, two, three.
  • Then describe those steps in the change process/model.
  • Include the reference to the original article and any additional articles. Reminder to only utilize reliable and SCHOLARLY nursing references, such as nursing textbooks, ATI textbooks, scholarly peer-reviewed publications, and scholarly websites (ends in .org, .edu or .gov). Do not use .com, .net, wikis, blogs, or non-scholarly sources.
  • In-text citations are a must!

Nursing Education”
Literature Review Developed from the Article
The advancement in technology has brought about changes in different practices,
especially in education among nursing students. The current generation wants to make their daily
practices easier by incorporating technological concepts. According to the article selected, faceto-face education has been used for a long period in education institutions and needs to be
changed. This is because the family nurse practitioner students have been showing a downward
trend in various exams regardless of the effort made to improve their scores. The downward
trend in the scores, especially in the Health Education System Incorporated Examination, made
the educator develop the interest of introducing online education.
Gamification and case-based learning were used as a strategy to engage the students in
problem-solving practices. This strategy was used to assess whether students can engage in
online activities and produce good results. This practice enabled educators to create an online
program for each module in the institution, which involved voluntary access and immediate
feedback. The feedback was expected to be negative or positive, based on how the students
accessed online materials. The results indicated a significant increase in scores when using the
online program compared to the face-to-face program. The positive results obtained made the
educators start relying on online programs more than face to face education. According to the
article, the change process model applied is the ADKAR Change Model.
Salient (relevant) Points presented in the Article

face. This is because the students have been showing a downward trend in their examination
scores, but the scores increased once an online program was introduced. Secondly, the article's
authors indicate that current nursing students need to shift from face-to-face education programs
to online programs due to the advancing level of technology (Mackavey & Cron, 2019). This is
because the students want to access any material introduced in the education contrary to the past
students. Lastly, Mackavey and Cron (2019) confirm that the online program significantly
increases the students' performance, especially in the examination. This conclusion was
developed after most students gave positive feedback regarding the adoption of the online
program to replace the face-to-face program.
The Change Model Applied to Implement the Change
According to the study's procedure, the change model used in the article is the ADKAR
Change Model. In this case, ADKAR is an acronym standing for Awareness, Desire, Knowledge,
Ability, and Reinforcement (Dana et al., 2016). The first step of the model regarding awareness
indicates the need for change by creating awareness in the people involved. In this case, the
educators created awareness to the nursing students that there is a need to change the education
program due to the continued downward trend. The second step involves showing the desire for
change. According to the study, the students showed a desire for change due to the scores they
were receiving in their exams. As per the third step regarding knowledge, the educators ensured
that they show the students how to use online programs through gamification. The fourth step
involves showing the ability to apply the change. According to the study, the students showed
their ability to use the online program by engaging themselves in games and giving immediate
feedback. As per the last step involving reinforcement, the educators concluded that an online
program is better than face-to-face education.
