See Your Big Potential Reflection
While doing his research on human happiness, best-selling author, Shawn Achor realized
how much impact human mindsets have on the way they act. Before he decided to do research on
what causes human happiness, Shawn had convinced himself that happiness cannot be studied or
measured. He had a fixed mindset before he was challenged by people in the psychology
department who wanted to study the cause of human happiness. This shows that their mindsets
determine human abilities and behavior. People can only achieve whatever they believe is
achievable and can also change their mindsets and start working on things that previously
seemed impossible.
Shawn also states that success is not a guarantee of happiness. People associate happiness
with success and believe that the harder they work, the more the chances of becoming successful
and in turn, becoming happy. In his study, Shawn observed that, once people achieve success,
they change their opinion on what success looks like and start pursuing other achievements that
they feel define success better than what they have achieved. Arguably, happiness can change
someone’s performance and yield success in whatever activity they are pursuing. In conclusion,
happiness yields higher success levels, but success doesn’t yield higher levels of happiness.
