Collective Action Problems
There are two examples of collective action problems. One is the free-rider problem. I
read that in this issue, people tend to desire to gain the full share of something without having
to put much effort into gaining it (Krutz & Waskiewicz, 2019, p.374). For example, in
schoolwork, students get assigned into groups, but some do not put any effort into the project
but expect full marks just like the rest of their mates. The second challenge occurs when an
individual member in the group has to do most of the work since they have not reached a
consensus. I would give an example of when a committee gets arranged to pick a venue for
an event, but the members appear not cooperative. Often the leader in this kind of group has
to do more than they can handle to meet the deadlines and requirements.
I believe societies face this type of problem due to laziness in the majority of the
people. Usually, when a less intelligent person gets merged with a smart person, they are
most likely to co-depend on them for everything. The same case applies to the political
leaders where the whole community banks everything on them and expects everything to
happen smoothly. In my opinion, the government attempts to solve these problems through
interest groups and political parties. The interest groups do not get affiliated with political
parties and can work effectively with any of them (Krutz & Waskiewicz, 2019, p.379). In this
way, struggling political leaders can get assistance in ensuring policies.
