Organization Background
The company was founded in 1979 as Medical Ambulatory Services. Since then the
company went through several mergers and came to represent a group of physicians. The
company was named Total Renal Care before claiming the name DaVita. DaVita's name
branding comes from the adaption from an Italian phrase “He/She gives life”. The company
provides treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) to patients 3 times each week. Today the
company has over 55,000 employees working for them and serving over 200,000 patients in just
alone in the United States. The company provides kidney dialysis services across the world with
a footprint of over 10 countries services over 210,000 patients worldwide.
Mission
The company has a mission statement revolving around the care of their patients,
systematically in line with their name. The company’s mission statement strives to be the
partner, provider, and choice of employers (DaVita, 2020). The organization’s main undertaking
is based on being one of the best medical service providers with regards to end-stage renal
disease (ESRD) and ensuring that it provides satisfactory service for the patients who will not be
viewed as customers but as a part of the organization as they build to grow together. This was
considered by the organization as a result of the demand that is much needed for better health
care provision that is much overdue. In the last couple of years, there has been an insurgence in
renal disease, and not many institutions that address and deal with end-stage renal disease and
give it the attention that it requires. The organization has now taken the opportunity to address
the issue and ensure that the best care is given to these patients.
Vision

3
The company is focused on building the greatest healthcare community in the dialysis
market. The vision is achieved with help of seven core values Service Excellence, Continuous
Improvement, Integrity, Team, Fulfillment, Fun, and Accountability (DaVita, 2020). The
organization is determined to be a leader in the care provision of ESRD as it helps reduce the
number of cases and the fatality of the disease. The company is also focused on bettering the
communities in which it is based by providing local employment and ensuring that corporate
social responsibility is benefited from the locals all around in its stations. The organization is
also aimed at providing awareness to the members of the public about ESRD and what can be
done by the people to avoid the disease and live a healthier lifestyle. The organization is also
determined to be present in as many locations so as to provide the services to as many
individuals as possible.
Culture
The company is determined to provide an all-inclusive culture with diverse leadership in
place. The culture is defined as The DaVita Way. This means that team members dedicate their
energy to build a healthy work culture. The analogy for DaVita’s culture can be understood by
taking a glimpse into their efforts to build a strong sense of work community. The company
represents itself as a village. The team members are never referred to as Full-Time Employees
(FTEs); instead, they are called Teammates. The culture also respects the contractors as well.
They are referred to as Guest Teammates. This type of culture has been incorporated by the
organization to ensure that the team members remain motivated at all times and strive to provide
the best healthcare to the patients for as long as they can. The organization understands the
importance of a good employer-employee relationship and how much it affects the productivity
of the members of the team. This culture will be directly translated into the mood and

temperament of the patients who will also be happier and appreciative of the wellness that they
receive. Contractors will also want to deliver on time as a result of the good relationship that they
have developed with the organization in a bid to seek business longevity (GlobalBenfitsvision,
2015).
