Description

A. Within Sentinel City™ you will notice a camera icon. Use the camera to take pictures within the simulation. Use the "enter text" feature to add your observations to the pictures. Submit a PDF of your action report from Sentinel City™ that includes the following completed activities from Industrial Heights, Casper Park District, Acer Tech Center, and Nightingale Square:

• Interfaith Church

• Sentinel City School District

• Sentinel City Department of Transportation

• Better Health Clinic

• ABC Daycare

• Sentinel City Affordable Housing Project

• City Hall

• Radio Buzz 96.5FM

• Sentinel City Healthcare System

• Lilly’s

• Joe’s Grocery

• Sentinel City Department of Parks and Recreation

B. Complete a needs-assessment summary to determine the health needs and risks of the virtual community in Sentinel City™ by using each of the following tools:

Note: These tools can be found either in the web links section or as an attachment to this task.

• Demographics Assessment

• Neighborhood/Community Safety Inventory

• Windshield Survey

• Population Health Scavenger Hunt

Note: The name of each of the four tools should be identified in the needs-assessment summary, along with a brief summary of how each of the four tools were used in the needs assessment.

1. Analyze the collected data using concepts of epidemiology and health determinants.

Note: Refer to these three sections of your COS for additional information: Epidemiology and Environmental Health, Epidemiological Data, and Application of Epidemiology.

C. Formulate a community diagnosis for Sentinel City™ by doing the following:

1. Discuss the three problems for Sentinel City™ based on the Healthy People goals.

2. Discuss community resources (e.g., Sentinel City™ Affordable Housing Project, Better Health Clinic) that are available to address one of the problems identified in part C1.

3. Identify a primary prevention topic based on the problem you selected in part C2.

Note: See the attached “Primary Prevention Topics List” for guidance in formulating your topic.

D. Discuss how you will apply the assessment strategies you have learned from the simulation environment to your community assessment strategies in your community.

E. Acknowledge sources, using in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.

F. Demonstrate Professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.

B. Community Assessment
Windshield Survey
The survey evidenced improved communication. Most people in the city use mobile
devices for communication. The tools link people to social media in the easy flow of
information. Remarkably, mass media is another means of information dispensation. Buzz radio
is the dominant media in the area. The survey did not reveal another form of mass
communication. I did not notice the TV stations and boosters. Print media has also dominated
the city with an increased number of people and stakeholders employing posters and billboards
to disseminate information. Adverts are the most prevalent messages on the billboards. It depicts
the increased number of marketing of goods and services.
The survey also depicted the increased social and recreational activities. Nightingale is
one of the affluent towns that have tennis courts. People congregate to celebrate their teams and
enjoy sporting activities. The national parks also provide an avenue for refreshing people’s
minds. It stores attractive scenarios such as archeological features. Besides, the government
depends on the sport and recreational services for taxing and economic growth.
Improved transport spurs economic development. The efficient road network enhances
the fast transport of goods and services from one region to another. The road system also
encourages the healthcare system. The universal health coverage stipulated for the need to have
equitable healthcare for all. Low road network slows the emergency medical care leading to
increased mortality and morbidity.
Neighborhood

2
Primarily, Industrial height has poor wastes disposal. The town governance low
maintains the sewerage systems. It has invested a few resources in the management of the
sewage system. Precisely, the people dispose of the waste product along the main roads and in
the rivers. One can quickly notice the dirt in the environment. The settlement along the river
banks has limited the expansion of the rivers. Many people clear up the trees in the river banks to
satisfy their land needs. The broken vehicles and plastic wastes are non-biodegradable. It is the
primary environmental hazard. Accordingly, the wastes block the soil aeration and kill the biotic
affluence that facility soil formation. People try to mitigate the trash by combustion. The method
has a double risk. The increased smoke in the town pollutes the air. It, in turn, changes the ozone
layer’s orientations influencing climate change. Smokes also increased the likelihood of people
developing air quality diseases. The smoke has mild to severe complications—the increase in
carbon monoxide chokes the people. Long-term exposure to smoke increases the likelihood of
developing chest complications and breathing difficulties.
In other towns like Casper perk Heights, I noticed the stray dogs. It evidenced that the
city has failed to manage human-animal relationships putting the environment at risk. A sizeable
number of people also smoke in public. It increases the burden of tobacco in the country.
Contrary to the two towns, Ace Tech Center and Nightingale are the city’s social and financial
services' harbors. They have established a road system with many health facilities to manage
diseases. However, I noticed the protesting people in Ace Tech Center. The protesters were
carrying burners suggesting the hardship of overtaxing. A handful of people also moved on
wheelchairs while others on crutches. In Nightingale, I observed that people were socially active.
Some of them participate in sports...
