Chapter 1 Understand Yourself feature gives you the chance to self-assess your global mindset. Global mindset reflects how well we influence people, groups, and organizations from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. The ability to work effectively with people from many parts of the world will help you to perform well on the job and advance your career faster. After completing the self-assessment, answer the following questions:
- Do you think that your score accurately reflects your global mindset? Why or why not? What, if anything, is missing from the assessment?
- How do you think that having a higher global mindset will help you to be a better manager and leader? How can this characteristic help you succeed in your career?
- What might you do in the next year to increase your global mindset? Identify and discuss three specific behaviors, activities, or other things that increase your global mindset.
As you are answering these questions, try to see these issues from the perspective of how individual, group, organizational system, and technology affect the change process. Second, identify individual and group attributes that influence work behavior and organizational effectiveness. Last, look at different types of diversity and barriers to inclusion that exist in the workplace.

Global mindset
A global mindset is having an individual’s ability to influence organizations, individuals, and
groups from different cultures and backgrounds. I believe I could score about 70% of mindest
since I have some characteristics that I possess while interacting with other individuals and groups.
First, I often find myself enjoying the current moment. It is true that the past is gone, while the
future seems difficult to predict in life. I clearly understand this, and that’s why I only focus on the
present situation. I don’t like thinking about or worry about what I don’t have, but I would rather
enjoy the moment. Secondly, I embrace and accept challenges. I often find myself having an
interest in tackling tough projects with no fear. I often find myself having the urge to explore an
opportunity to prove to myself to get smarter and stronger. I am never afraid of challenges, and
therefore I believe I have a global mindset.
A leader who has a higher global mindset alert has an advantage over other leaders in that he or
she is able to lead a group or an individual efficiently. The leader has the ability to handle situations
in an ambiguous, uncertain, and ever-changing environment. I believe that by having a global
mindset, I will have the ability to operate a global business. The global mindset will help me as a
leader to understand and be open to business differences, cultural differences and have a significant
influence on the stakeholders involved. A global mindset ought to help me as a leader to engage
in foreign cultures innovation, participate global marketplace, organize across various local
customization and global standardization.
Secondly, having an effective global mindset ought to help me as a leader in inspiring individuals
to achieve the goals and visions in an organized manner and shape the company’s transformation
rolls in complex, multiple, and uncertain environments of a nation to ensure that the organization
remains competitive.
