EIND 300 – Engineering Management and Ethics – Fall 2020 Written Research Summary and Presentation OVERVIEW The written research summary and presentation assignment is designed to 1) allow students to investigate an area of management or organizational theory that they have a deep interest in understanding more completely, 2) gain experience utilizing appropriate sources to research a topic for academic purposes, and 3) become more comfortable with written and oral communications. The team must bring in materials on the topic that exceed course materials in the area. The assignment has several distinct components outlined below and represents 20% of the course grade. DELIVERABLES 1. Proposal - Due 1 September – 10% – Using the Dropbox folder in Brightspace submit a proposal for your presentation topic. The proposal must be no more than 1 page in length and include the following: o Presentation / Topic Title o Brief description of the topic (1 – 2 paragraphs) including why it is of interest to you / your team. o At least one quality source (e.g. an academic worthy peer reviewed publication, not a popular press magazine, Wikipedia, etc.) you expect to utilize for your presentation – listed as an APA format reference. o If more than one team submits the same (or essentially the same) topic, preference will be given to the first submission made in D2L. ** Initial feedback on proposed topics and order of presentation will be provided by 10 September ** 2. Outline - Due 22 October @ 1:40 pm – 20% – Submit an outline of your presentation (3 – 6 pages + references) in the D2L Dropbox that includes citations and references for all material utilized. In addition to the outline, the team will write at least one question about their topic that might be utilized for student group discussions or on an exam and include their desired answer to that question – this question and answer should not be included in your presentation. The quality of the question will play an important role in the grade earned on this component of the assignment. Questions that require students to simply recall facts or show limited comprehension will earn a score of ‘C’. In order to earn higher scores, teams must design a problem or exercise that requires their peers to demonstrate performance on the higher levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy of learning. More information about the taxonomy and designing appropriate questions can be found online or in the library, I recommend this source to start http://www.edpsycinteractive.org/topics/cognition/bloom.html 3. Presentation File - Due 2 November by 11:59 pm – 60% - a recorded presentation in an appropriate format (e.g. video recorded where you and slides are visible or voice over slides through TechSmith) Student files will be viewable for the entire class to the class. The presentation must ensure that the relationship between the topic, other course materials, and engineering is made clear. The presentation is limited to six (6) minutes 40 seconds. The format is a Pecha Kucha style 20 slide presentation with each slide moving automatically after 20 seconds. You will then have up to 2 minutes for Q&A. 4. Summary slide and Discussion – Slide Due 2 November by 11:59 pm, discussion on 5 November in class – 10% - A single PowerPoint slide summarizing highlights of your presentation. You will present this slide for 30 seconds in class and then have 1 – 2 minutes for questions from the class and instructor. ** All presentations are part of the course materials and may appear on exams.**

common types of ethics that are used. Apart from the personal ethics one can possess in a
work environment, they must be combined with professional ethics that are established in
our places of work. In as much as different profession have different ethical guidelines,
these ethical guidelines tend to be the same across many other professions. To define
ethics, Ethics are set of rules on which if violated can lead to termination of an
employment. Engineers both in practice and research should not just follow the
professional ethics set but also know the reason as to why the rules have been put in place
to use as a guide.

Engineering is a field of work where an engineer can have multiple roles and
tasks so different engineering stakeholders can participate. In order to protect the social
and public interest of work, engineers are not only responsible for satisfying the needs
and demands of consumers but also, they have to fulfill the ethical and moral obligation
of their work. The Engineering Ethics Code has designed the professional, social and
