Part One: The American Dream
The American Dream is founded on the ideals of intergenerational mobility and social
mobility and I do not believe that it exists in a tangible way. It drives the notion that the United
States is a land of opportunity where every individual can be a success story regardless of where
they come from or their circumstances when growing up (Hipple, 2018). Research shows that
Americans and other people living in the United States have a slim chance of rising from the
bottom to the top of the economic ladder. People in Denmark and Canada for example, have a
better chance of economic success (Kellogg Insight, 2018). Further, research has proven that
there is a lot of stickiness at the lower end and top end of the income graph in the relationship
between a parent’s and a child’s annual wages. Figures show that about 40%, children born at
either end of the economic spectrum stay there (University of California, n.d.). ...
