Briefly identify characteristics of effective teams, including team leadership and
barriers to team performance.
There are several characteristics that the Hope Medical Center Stop CAUTI team needs
to have for significant results. The team should have effective teamwork, flexibility, technical
skills, communication skills, and enthusiasm. The team members also need to have respect,
which will enable them to be comfortable working with each other. Having a shared ambition
and working towards a common goal are virtues that need to be firmly upheld. By embracing the
characteristics mentioned earlier, the team members will be as effective as possible in their
operations.
On the other hand, team leaders also play an essential role in formulating rigid team
dynamics. Goods leaders encourage the team members to employ teamwork for significant
results (Marquis & Huston, 2015). Team leaders need to have practical communication skills,
wise decision making, and an encouraging spirit of trust and harmony. There are specific barriers
that might present themselves to the team affecting the performance. The barriers involve lack of
managerial involvement, conflicts amongst the team members, lack cohesiveness, employee
dissatisfaction, and poor communication being the greatest of all.

Hope Medical Center Stop CAUTI team members include the infection control
department, nurse managers, executive, nursing assistants, nurses, and physicians. Following the

several CAUTI cases reported, all the team members have roles and responsibilities to play in
reducing or even preventing more cases. The leaders have to communicate effectively with the
staff members and collaborate to form strategies addressing the issue. They also need to create
