Business Problems
The state firefighter's association aims at financially supporting deceased family members and
bringing firefighters from all over the state together during conferences each year. From the case
study herein, the state firefighter's association is with various problems. First is that the association
is the lack of advanced technology. The organization uses a computer system developed in 1984,
which takes a long to run simple queries and is ineffective and inefficient since it loses records.
It's hard to retrieve information through queries. The software does not exist, and no one knows
how to maintain that system. Second, the association lacks qualified employees, especially
bookkeeping personnel. Bob runs unopposed every year as the association treasurer because no
one is ready to take his position, which is tedious and time-consuming; he leaves all over the
organization duties to his wife Laura, who does all the inquiries reconciliations. Their performance
is poor such that even the organization is not happy with their work.
Another problem is poor customer service; reliance on obsolete technologies has made it hard for
the organization to efficiently and effectively handle customer queries. Answering member's
question takes longer periods. It is done manually, or answers are manually searched since the
technology or the association's system does not allow such operations.
