Socioeconomics definitely contributes to the gap in quality of care and access to healthcare; some people are very limited with treatments and tests due to their plan coverage. I work at a clinic that is considered a to be for pain management and "specialty," which means not all insurance have the plan benefits to cover the services. For example, those with medicare cannot receive treatments at our office because it is not covered. However, we have a lot of middle class patients; usually teachers, people who have office jobs come in because their work insurance covers us. It's very unfortunate for those who have lower income or cannot purchase a plan because they suffer more chronic conditions, lower life-expectancy, and poor health compared to those in middle/upper class. Not only they are limited with the services they can get, it is harder for them to take time out of their job and to go into get treatment. I really do hope for a health reform and insurance becomes more equal and affordable to all.Peer 2: As of 2018, in the state of New Jersey, 7% of individuals are uninsured (KFF 2018). In the United States the total population that is uninsured is 9%. I feel as if NJ falls in the median of every state combine. I believe that with the world we are living in today with COVID19, I believe the numbers not only for NJ but all other states as well may have higher percentages. If not a healthcare worker or first responder, or anyone on the front line you are laid off and/or unemployment during this pandemic. The lower the income the less likely it is to have healthcare. For example, I am not apart of the 7% in NJ. I apart of the middle class who's health benefits are offered through working at the hospital. Unfortunately not all people are as lucky and they either have to pay out of pocket for health insurance or don't have it at all. Out of pocket health insurance or lack there of is very expensive and almost too costly. If someone who has little to no healthcare they do not have options to be seen by the physician of their choice, if they are sick and require a lot of medical attention they may opt not to go to the doctor to the hospital because of the cost. For most people who come to my hospital, they do not have health insurance and they use the emergency room as their primary doctor. We have Charity Care which is medical bill assistance for low income or homeless patients. When insured it makes a world of difference you can go to almost any doctor or specialist, have any surgery, and at most will only have to pay a Copay. With my insurance by Copay is $15 for a specialist and $5 for any other physician and nearly nothing out of pocket for medications.
