How children disclose sex abuse
It is still hard for many parents and guardians to know what they can do about the child’s
disclosure of sexual mistreat. Many people tend to be harsh to children when they disclose their
experience of being sexually abused. They forget that the more you demand information, the
more the children tend to hide it from you. The fact that they see they are talking to a child tend
not to care of the privacy of the little ones (McElvaney, 2013). This tends to harass the child’s
decision of disclosing the information and may therefore make the child feel insecure in letting it
out. Many people take the child as the offender and this should not be the case.
The concerned party who the child has delivered the information should immediately
seek medical attention for the child and insist on all possible examinations. The matter should
also be reported to the police for further investigation and prosecution of the suspect. It is also
advisable to seek assistance from organizations that fight for children rights as this will escalate
the case against the offender. The child and the closest members of the family should be
counseled to avoid any depression or mental work up by the incidence (Oates, 2007).
It may be difficult for some children to disclose what really happened to them. This is
especially if they had never been interactive with their parents at a very close range, or if the
parents are too harsh to the children. However there are symptoms that come after a child suffers
trauma, medically known as posttraumatic stress disorder. The child’s normal behavior will
change alongside signs like being easily affected negatively by loud noise, reduced
