Jake's driving a car at 20-m/s and sees a deer in the road, slamming on the brakes and coming to a stop.The coefficient of friction between the tires and road as the tires slide over the road is 0.55.How far will car slide?

In this problem we set up the following equation: D = (V0)^2/2UG

V0 is initial velocity

U = coefficient of friction

G = acceleration due to gravity = 9.8m/s^2

We simply input the numbers for the variables and solve for D

D = (20m/s)^2/2(0.55)(9.8m/s^2)

D = 400m^2/s^2/10.78m/s^2

D = 37.11M
