1 attraction of the negatively changed particles (electrons) to the positively charged nucleus (protons) is the force 

2 directly the electrons are involved as stated above the attraction to the positive center keeps the electron is a given space whether it's ionic (give up completely) or covalent (share with another)

3 potassium K+ gives up one electron so that it's valence shell is complete and models an ideal gas
