Capital punishment has always brought about heated arguments with individuals taking a
side on how the ideal situation should be regarding televising executions or not. Hover allowing
for public viewing of the execution content should be able to focus on the wellbeing of the society
and from several arguments, allowing for televising of execution of prisoners will be detrimental
to the existing cohesion and integration among individuals within the American society. The paper
argues against televising execution because of different reasons as discussed in detail in the paper.
The idea of televising execution seems misplaced especially about the existing human
rights and general well-being of humanity. Allowing for televising of execution process is not an
ideal step in having a progressive nation. The general image that is displayed during execution
shows a cruel society that is unable to impart positive values among its citizens and chooses to use
the cruelest methods to defend their actions. Even though execution has been permitted by law, it
is better when it is done in private (Mandery and Mandery, 2011).
An important aspect to consider in this case is the moral values that will be affected by the
whole situation. Children, for instance, grow up knowing that executing or killing someone is a
wrong act to undertake and if the execution cases are televised it will provide moral decay where
children may tend to assume that executing someone is not a bad thing after all because it is
demonstrated on the television. This is not the kind of future generation that can be able to interact
and solve a problem in a more mature way.
If a prisoner is executed, it is important to consider the impact it has on his or her family.
Even though the family has done nothing wrong, the pain of seeing a loved one being executed
live on television is not one of the best feelings on earth. The situation can be very traumatic and
instead of having to deal with trauma among many family members of the executed prisoners it is

just in the best interest of all parties involved to ensure that execution is a private affair (Mandery
and Mandery, 2011).
It is also argued that broadcasting an execution process would highly offer unbalanced
picture which will likely to make the condemned seem helpless and sympathetic while keeping the
victims of the crime situation out of the picture although it can be argued that that defendant has
been found guilty of a capital offense and deserves to die as a result. But at least ...
