1. Significance of the family history
Bill’s aunt and uncle suffered from recurrent Sino pulmonary infections and a
gastrointestinal infection. His cousin also had a common variable
immunodeficiency (CID) at age 30. All this pin point to family history of allergies
and immunodeficiency syndrome which are important in the family history.
2. Significant findings from Bills history and blood
He had an excess of upper respiratory tract infections and diarrhea
He was also small for his age
He developed a severe case of sinusitis that made his physician wonder if there
was another underlying infection although he responded well to antibiotics.
He had a close family history of recurrent Sino pulmonary infections and a
gastrointestinal infection, while a cousin had CVID at age 30 years
The analysis of his serum IGa levels which were not detectable imply that he has
increased risk of developing autoimmune conditions like asthma and other
allergic conditions
