Description

In the Media Review Project you will be asked to review a media that incorporates domestic violence in their plot.

  1. Select a film that depicts domestic violence. Alternatively, you may select a book or television show instead of a movie. Regardless of the medium of choice, it cannot be older than 5 years. For example, Enough (2002) came out in 2002 - this is too old. Your medium must have come out in 2015 or after.
  2. After you have selected a film, television show, or movie, identify one character (victim of domestic violence) who will be the focus of your paper.
  3. Compose a 6-8 page paper (not including title or reference page) which addresses the items listed in the rubric attached to this assignment.

I attached the grading rubric and the exact details of what to look for in regards to the assignment itself.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE FILM, “A VIGILANTE”
Domestic violence refers to abuse in a family setting, i.e., cohabitation or marriage. The
most used synonym for domestic violence is intimate partner violence. Such an act is often
committed by a partner or a spouse against person in the relationship. Domestic violence can also
be abuse against the elderly, parents, or children and often occur in various forms, including
emotional, physical, economic, sexual, or verbal abuse. Such abuse ranges from violent physical
abuse, i.e., female genital mutilation, beating, choking, and sometimes pouring acid or hot water
on the other person, which may further lead to death, to crafty forms as marital rape. Domestic
murders, on the other side, include actions such as dowry deaths, honor killings, bride burning,
and stoning. The National Domestic Violence Hotline defines domestic violence as actions
intended to promote fear, harm a person physically, and avert people from doing certain things
(Buzawa and Buzawa, 2018). Other abuse types, such as threats, sexual abuse, and emotional
torture, are all classified under domestic violence. The film "A Vigilante" was directed and
scripted by Sarah Daggar-Nickson and was produced in 2018. The movie depicts domestic
violence and portrays the effects of domestic violence on the victims.
PLOT
Sadie, the main character in the film, is a woman who attends a support group after her
husband abandoned her. The consistent abuse from her husband turned her into a vigilante. She
gave up everything and decided to assist children in running away from abusive homes and
helping men and women in abusive marriages and relationships. Despite vowing to assist people
who were suffering due to domestic violence, Sadie was financially unstable. She asked for help
from the people she assisted in an attempt to pay her life insurance policy. One day, Andrea

between Sadie and Andrea, and Sadie turns against Michael (Anndrea's husband), beats him, and
makes him send all the money he had into Andrea's account, and ordered Michael to leave the
house to Andrea. Michael had been an abusive husband to Andrea for the longest time, an...
