Explanation & Answer

In the original Olympic Games, the only event was a short sprint from one end of the stadium to the other. Gradually more events were added to make four days of competitions. They included wrestling, boxing, long jump, throwing the javelin and discus as well as  chariot racing. As these games started to attract competitors from afar and became more popular, they became much more competitive, Laurels and fame were awarded to the winners, some of whom resorted to cheating and bending of the rules to win.

The differences  between the old and new Olympic games

The old games were

1.: Held in honor of Zeus, the chief Greek god

2. Married women could not attend

modern games :

1. Many countries participate  with  thousands of competitors

2. Many more events than the original handful

3. Much more competitive with judges
