Experiment: Exploring Oxidation-Reduction Reactions

INTRODUCTION.
The aim of this experiment is to have a detailed knowledge of how chemicals react on oxidation
and on reduction. Oxidation occurs when an atom, a molecule or an in losses electrons from its
chemical composition. Reduction occurs when an atom, a molecule or an ion gains electrons in
its chemical composition.
HYPOTHESIS
It wasn’t until the 17th century when a solution to the Oxidation and the Reduction
chemical reactions were found. Not only being found but also the scientific understanding of the
reaction was brought on board. The term metallurgy is essential in the chemistry world in the
contest of metallic formation. Apart from Gold and Silver, all other metals do not exist in the
metallic form but rather extracted from their respective ore forms. This means that they are
reduced to a smaller amount of real metals and pure metals from the initial ore.
The metals have got a certain valency of electrons that gives them the potential to
combine with other substances and elements to form a compound. Oxygen and water are known
to be the most popular reagents that combine with metals to form new substances called
compounds. A process of combining metals with oxygen is called oxidation while the process of
