a student brought 25.73g of iron (cp=.449) at 23.2degrees Celsius  into contact with 50.82g of silver (cp=.235) at 68.8 degrees Celsius. determine the equilibrium temperature

Oct 26th, 2014

Let the equilibrium temperature be t

25.73*0.449*(t-23.2) = 50.82*0.235*(68.8-t)

11.55277(t-23.2) =11.9427(68.8-t)

t( 11.55277+11.9427) = 11.55277*23.2+11.9427*68.8

t = (268.0243+821.6578)/23.49547=1089.682/23.49547 =46.38

Answer: 46.38 degrees celsius
