Go back and review from your Week One through Week Five readings and find two different periods in history or two cultural groups in history that intrigues you, for example, Mesopotamia/Ancient Chinese Tang dynasty or Gothic/Renaissance period. After you decide on the two groups or historical periods, choose two cultural artifacts from these two different groups that share a COMMON theme (SEE “Choice of themes” BELOW.) Make sure these artifacts were not discussed in the weekly discussion board assignments. This paper will be worth 70 points or 7 % of your final course grade. Description of Artifacts
The artifacts I have chosen to compare come from two different periods in European art, namely
from the Baroque art of 1600s and from the German Expressionist movement that was at its peak
in the early 20th century. The two pieces of art that I will compare are The Consequences of War
(1638-1639, oil on canvas, Palatine Gallery, Palazzo Pitti, Florence) and Self-Portrait as a
Soldier (1915, oil on canvas, Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College), which are two
artifacts that correspond to the movements of baroque and expressionism, respectively. The
