Question 1:
Workers should be given more control over the inspection for their own work. Discuss
the pros and cons of this situation?
Regular Workplace inspections are an important part of occupational health, safety
programs and management systems (Venkatesh & Puranik, 2018). In most cases, inspections
allow to listen to workers and supervisors’ concerns, gain better understanding of jobs and
tasks, identify workplace hazards and their causes, recommend corrective actions and also
help to monitor hazard control programs. While in most cases inspection is done by the
management or an external body, current research propose that workers should be given
control over the inspection of their own work. Some of the advantages of the above would
include that, the workers would be much motivated since they would feel trusted by their
employer by inspecting their own work. Eventually this, would improve their performance
and output at work. Another advantage of the latter situation is that it would lead to a better
identification of existing problems and hazards since the employees facing these problems
would be the ones inspecting their own workplaces (Venkatesh & Puranik, 2018).
Apart From this, giving workers control over the inspection for their own work would
also lead to greater cooperation of workers during inspections leading to a better control and
monitoring of workplace hazards. Most importantly, the above situation would reduce the
costs of inspection since workers would be required to inspect their own work without having
to hire an external team or the management team which would need extra pay (Venkatesh &
Puranik, 2018). On the other hand, giving workers control over the inspection of their own
work may lead to inefficient inspections since workers may lack necessary inspection skills
and knowledge to execute inspections. Apart from this, the above situation can also lead to

the integrity risks such as manipulation of inspections results especially when workers are not
sincere. Lastly the above situation, is also time consuming as every worker would need to
inspect their own work and report to another person who compiles the inspection report
which is quite lengthy (Venkatesh & Puranik, 2018).
Question 2:
A. What are the advantages of Exponential smoothing over the Moving average and
the Weighted moving average? Explain the aggregate planning strategy?
Some of the major types of time series forecasting techniques include exponential
smoothing, the moving average and the weighted moving average. While exponential
smoothing takes into account recent observations than older values, moving average on the
other hand uses a simple average of the total values to forecast a future event whereas the
weighted moving average assigns greater weighting to more recent values than older ones.
Some of the advantages of exponential smoothing over the moving average and the weighted
moving average include that it is easy to learn and apply since only three data values are
required; forecast for the most recent period, actual value of the latter time period and the value
of the smoothing constant (Ekhosuehi & Omorogbe, 2016).. The moving average on the other
hand requires, values of the entire data set to be added together and then divided by the number
of periods while the weighted moving average carries along the values of all the periods.
Another advantage of exponential smoothing over the moving average and the
weighted moving average is that it is more accurate since it accounts for the difference in
projections and the actual result unlike moving average which the sum of all values by the
periods and the weighted moving average which accounts for the difference in the projections
of all past periods and their actual results (Ekhosuehi & Omorogbe, 2016). Apart from this,
exponential smoothing gives more significance to recent observations unlike the moving

average which assumes all values are equal and the weighted moving average which considers
all the past values (Ekhosuehi & Omorogbe, 2016). On the other hand, an aggregate planning
strategy refers to a plan of action which seeks to work out production requirements for a
medium range. In the above scenarios of exponential smoothing, moving average and weighted
moving average the chase strategy is applied since the forecasts seek to match the future
demand with the production (Cheraghalikhani et al., 2019).
