The case of gender imbalance has existed since time immemorial. From the United
States founding fathers; women were barred from voting all around the world. The women
suffrage movement started in the early phase of the 19th century- this was a period through
which multiple campaigns were being held against slavery. Women like Lucretia Mott played a
significant role in the anti-slavery movement and held public speaking ceremonies to campaign
against slavery in America. When Elizabeth Cady Stanton joined the anti-slavery movement, she
consulted Mott on the importance of providing equal opportunities and championing for the
rights of women. They agreed that women's rights needed to be addressed and quickly. In 1848
July, Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton called a convention to address the issue of
women's rights. The convention happened in Elizabeth's hometown, Seneca Falls in New York;
it issued a declaration that emphasized on women's suffrage and the rights of women in obtaining
equal opportunities in both education and employment opportunities.
This convention was followed by another one held in 1850 in Worcester, Massachusetts
by Lucy Stone and some members of a group of Eastern suffragists. The third convention was
held in Syracuse and saw the establishment of a joint venture between Elizabeth Stanton and
Susan B. Anthony. They formed the leaders of the American Suffragist movement that existed
for around 5o years. Other conventions were held as the suffragist movement gained momentum.
However, they had not yet achieved their goal of gaining equal voting rights. The Wyoming
Territory became the first territory to grant women the rights to vote; however, it was soon
apparent that the preferable plan would be an amendment of the Federal constitution. As a result,
the National Women Suffrage Association was established in 1869 and declared its objective of
securing equal voting rights for women through the amendment of the constitution. Elizabeth
Stanton and Susan Anthony acted as the leaders for this convention and held yearly meetings for
each of those 50 years.
Another organization known as the American Woman Suffrage movement was formed in
1869 by Lucy Stone. Their main objective was to obtain favourable constitutional amendments
