1. Explain how vitamins are classified.
Vitamins are classified based on the water solubility and fat solubility.
Fat-soluble vitamins are – vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E and vitamin K
Water soluble vitamins are – vitamin B group (B1, B2, B6 and B12) and vitamin C group
2. Why are vitamins an important part of daily nutrient intake?
Vitamins are considered as micronutrients because body needs only minute number of
vitamins for our daily intake. Even though vitamins need tiny amounts, deficiencies of
the vitamins lead to diseases such as scurvy, blindness and rickets.
