Introduction
In a bid to understand the role of individuals, societal and governmental efforts in the
reduction of greenhouse gases emission, it is essential to explore briefly what greenhouse
gases are and how they are emitted. Green house gases are gases that ‘blanket’ the earth from
the upper atmosphere, leading to increased temperatures and negative climatic changes. The
gases are mainly made of chloroflourocarbons and carbon II oxide. The effects are due to the
absorption of the infrared emissions. The infrared emissions are either from the sun or from
the short waves due to the earth’s reflection of long waves. The gases absorb this heat and the
atmosphere becomes warmer than it should bed. As a result, heat waves are sent, back to
earth, since the heat cannot find its way out of the earth’s atmosphere. The heat waves are
very harmful to the skin, and are known to cause cancer through energizing the skin cells,
casing harmful rapid multiplication. The warmer atmosphere can hold more water for longer,
therefore, holding rains and causing draughts and famines. When the warm air releases the
water, it becomes more of a quick action, heavy down pours result, which leads to floods
(Burns, Davis, & Kick, 2015). This paper takes a look at how the government, the society and
individuals can control the emissions of greenhouse gases.
Human beings have control on greenhouse gases emissions, since most of the sources
are human. There are natural, uncontrollable sources such as volcanic activities which
produce tones of the same per hour and can last for days, and natural gas sources as well, but
human activities are more influential. Methane, for instance, is one of the greenhouse gases.
It has sources from agricultural activities, waste management, natural gas and biomass. In
most cases most of the gases are emitted during the process of producing energy. Cooking
gas is one source of the greenhouse gases. Cooking gas occur naturally. While extracting it
from beneath the earth, it finds its way to the atmosphere. Considering the number of natural

gas wells that are active every hour globally, little emissions from each lead to tones of
methane. Other sources include vehicles. Cars produce nitrous and carbonic emissions which
contribute to greenhouse gases; this also is a source of energy that, if reduced, can reduce the
levels of emissions. Some power plants produce masses of greenhouse gases...
