Constraining social class power is the primary theme in the story “A Wall of Fire
Rising”. One would clearly see that, the Haiti couple described in the story lived in much poverty
but had a better dream for their son who they perceived as highly gifted. The wife is presented to
us as a responsible woman who takes care of her family through cooking the little that she gained
form the sales of wares at the market as well as through scrapes. She does this without
complaining, a thing that showed she understood her predicaments and her desire to improve life
