According to the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) of the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), Federal Emergency Management Agency, the United States has one of the highest per capita fire death rates among industrialized nations.

  1. Explain the importance of investigating fires and their causes.
  2. What happens as a fire becomes larger and burns longer?
