Description

For this assignment, write a 3-4 page paper about the use of Mesoamerican art in contemporary Chicanx murals in Los Angeles. The paper should be double-spaced, 1 inch margins, Times New Roman font. Please proofread your paper before uploading it to Canvas.

Your thesis statement will complete the following sentence.

In the body of the paper, explain the significance of the Mesoamerican iconography in each mural. So if the mural has an Olmec portrait head, explain the Mesoamerican function of the portrait head and then why the artist wanted to include it in the mural. I have provided you with some articles to contextualize the murals but for your essay, I do not want to read a summary of the articles. Use your knowledge of Mesoamerican art to its explain its significance within the mural. There are three murals: (#1) Estrada Courts murals, (#2) Filing Up on Ancient Energies, (#3) Mexico-Tenochtitlan: A Sequence of Time & Culture (aka "The Wall that Talks"). Based on your knowledge of Mesoamerican art works in this course, identify specific imagery in the murals and discuss why it was used. Also discuss the location of the mural and who made it.

**You do not have to physically visit any of these murals. Images of the murals are provided in the attachment.
