Description

Phase 3 of the Organizational Behavior-in-Action Project in this Organizational Behavior course contains two interesting activities. Instructions: Please single space your work, with one blank line between each paragraph. Identify each section as Part 1: (a), (b), etc…..then Part 2.

Part 1: Your Professional Life Languages contains a section entitled Clues for Communication. This section provides very insightful information about how to relate better with individuals who communicate fluently (either their first, second, or third Life Language) through each of the seven Life Languages.

In addition, you can learn to communicate more effectively and efficiently through each of the 7 Life Languages by studying the list of positive traits that are printed on the right column of each Clues for Communication page. For example, if your supervisor’s primary (1st) Life Language is Mover, but it is your 5th, 6th, or 7th Life Languages, you might not possess as many of the positive traits in this particular Life Language as your supervisor does. However, you can review the list of traits for the Mover Language on the Mover Clues for Communications page in order to better understand your high Mover supervisor. You can also begin to practice some of those positive Mover traits in order to relate to and communicate better with your supervisor through that particular Life Language.

(a) Review the Clues for Communication pages for all seven of the Life Languages. In two paragraphs that contain 5 to 7 sentences each, discuss what you learned about yourself and others that will help you to more effectively work with and/or relate to others.

(b) Identify three (personal and/or professional) relationships that you believe will be improved as a result of the information that you learned about these unique Clues for Communication. Explain why you selected each relationship in three or more sentences per relationship.

Part 2: Listed below are 20 Key Organizational Behavior terms and concepts. Select 10 of those terms and/or concepts and write a one-paragraph single-spaced explanation of how the information you learned about yourself and others through reading your detailed Professional Life Languages Profile---as it relates to each specific key term or concept. Each paragraph should contain five or more complete sentences.

Instructions: As instructed above, please single space your work, with one blank line between each paragraph. Number each paragraph in Part 2. Type each key term or concept in Bold print at the beginning of each paragraph---followed by a colon, two horizontal spaces, and then the one paragraph in regular (not bold) print. Also, put in bold print each Life Languages term that you mention in your paragraph. (See a few actual Student Samples below.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Each paragraph that you type regarding a specific key Organizational Behavior term must include specific statements about that term as it relates to one or more of the seven Life Languages. In other words, mention the specific Life Language or Languages as you write about each key term. (See actual students’ sample comments below to read what other students have said when they completed this assignment.)

******************************

Below Are Actual Students’ Sample Comments: (These are Examples Only…Please Create Your Own Comments).

1. Diversity: In the business world today, with all the new technology diversity is magnified ten-fold. I like the fact, that the “influencer” in me is open to new ideas, people, and things. The language of Influencer allows me to be open to the diverse nature of today’s business world and the Mover and Doer in me allow me to communicate with them. I do however, intend on working on my Responder language to allow more of my emotions to come through, so that I will not come across as cold or insensitive to my peers. This class has taught me to identify and improve my weaknesses and to be proud and have confidence in my strengths. This knowledge will allow me to open up more to the diverse atmosphere in my business and help build the social culture in a positive manner.

2. Personality: When I was young, my grandma used to always say “it is easier to attract flies with honey instead of vinegar.” Why anyone would want to attract flies was beyond me at that time. However, now I have an understanding of that phrase and agree with it. In the work environment, as a manager, I would deal with many different personalities. Knowing that I am a high Contemplator and an introvert and low Responder language, I now know that I need to strengthen my social and emotional intelligence to be able to communicate better with several different personalities. This will enable me to be a more open and effective manager. I have developed a stronger self-concept through learning my life languages and will be better prepared to strengthen my personality to a more positive one.

3. Self-Concept: For the first time in my life, I have a better understanding of me and it has helped strengthen my self-concept considerably. This class has opened my eyes and mind to who I am and what makes me tick. I think everyone should have to take the Life Language Assessment and this class. Understanding yourself allows you to be able to interact with others better and that is necessary in the workplace to be an effective manager/employee. Having a better self-concept has enabled me to learn what my strengths and weaknesses are and will make me more of a whole individual, allowing me to be more confident. I believe that employees feel better with a strong, confident manager than with a questioning, weak one. As a high Influencer/Doer and moderate Responder, I also learned a lot about how to communicate through the positive traits and stay away from those distress signals of each language in order to help build the self- concept of others.

4. Emotions: As a high Responder, I have the ability to perceive when others are feeling sad or happy, depressed or overjoyed. By definition, this means I have emotional contagion. Managers who are in touch with their employees emotions can better motivate and lead them because they are able to respond correctly to their emotional needs. Employees will be grateful for managers who take a notice to these needs. These simple observations can make an employee feel appreciated and increase the value of their work.

5. Social Capital: “Carpe Diem” or seize the day is one of the action phrases of my Mover Language. I do believe that this attitude is exactly what is required to create a positive environment, which is perfect for the creation of an excellent social capital. As manager of a company, I would say that it would be in the company’s best interest to “seize the day,” and create such a vibrant environment for our employees that they would love to come to work for us. Innovative thinking and an investment in our human capital would be the best draw for the talent out there. That is why my high Influencer Language is so important. Obtaining the best human capital through positive and alluring social capital would hopefully equate to a winning and profitable organization which would definitely appeal to my high end Mover and Contemplator languages. Maybe this would land the company in the Fortune 500 list as “the place to work”, which would definitely satisfy the “need to achieve” monster in me.

6. Culture Intelligence: The high Contemplator in me is what drives me to want “to know.” I have always had the desire to learn about other cultures and to travel the world. I want to immerse myself into other cultures and hopefully sharpen my skills of Cultural Intelligence. I do have concerns about myself as an introvert and low Producer, because while I have a desire to learn and have taken many culturally diverse classes, I seem to like solitude and some time find the thought of being around a lot of people unbearable. My desire to open myself up to new experiences and cultures, plus my ability to read people would be a great combination in the business world, because I would work on being open enough to increase my skills of cultural intelligence among my staff and send them out into different areas of the world to handle things on my behalf, when I am unable to do so myself. My moderate Influencer will also be a big help in developing my cultural intelligence.

7. Servant Leadership: I decided to start my project with leadership because of the importance that a good leadership has in today’s business world. As a High Shaper/Producer, my major desire in life is to lead, and I will do it with grace and thoughtfulness. I take leadership as a challenge and I am ready to put extra efforts in becoming a great leader and an asset to my company. I tend to be organized and strategic and by clearly communicating my plans, short-term and long-term goals to my team members and superiors, I will have a good base for success. However, my Responder and Influencer languages are low and I really need to improve my communications through these languages in order to be a true Servant Leader. I will do so by studying the positive characteristics of each language and practicing speaking through those languages.

8. Emotional Intelligence: By learning my life languages, I realize now that when I get stressed out, I tend to communicate a lot through the distress signals of my high Doer, Influencer, and Shaper languages. These are my top three languages. Now I know why I sometimes have trouble in my work and personal relationships. Also, my dad, who is also my boss, is a high Responder. This explains why I have conflicts with him, both at home and at work. Responder is my 6th language. It is a low language for me and this helps to explain why my Dad and I have not related well to each other. This amazing project has changed my life, and how I view myself and others. It is my responsible to make appropriate changes, based on what I have learned through this project. I will definitely change my own behaviors and stop communicating through the distress signals. I will also try to determine others’ Life Languages and strive to relate to them through their stronger languages. By doing so, I will be demonstrating more emotional intelligence.

Instructions for Creating your Organizational Behavior Paper, Continued:

Note To Students: Do not start your sentences with statements like “I learned”, or “Knowledge of this concept will help…..” etc., or any other repetitive statement that can be found in each of your paragraphs. Overview of the 7 Life Languages™ There are 7 Life Languages divided into three Intelligence Categories: Emotive, Cognitive, and Kinetic Intelligences. It isn't if we are smart, but how we are smart. Each one of the 7 Life Languages are incredibly smart in their own way as you are about to discover. Kinetic Speakers of Kinetic Languages generally respond to life, people, stress, and values first through action, then with their heart or head. Mover Direct, Assertive, Ambitious, Pioneering, Courageous, and Standard Bearer Doer Dedicated, Observant, Diligent, Practical, Efficient, and Responsible Cognitive Emotive Speakers of Emotive Languages generally respond to life, people, stress, and values first with their heart, then with their head or actions. The higher the score, the more energy you have to speak that Language. The Language score also tells you how strongly you may identify with the characteristics of that Language in its pure form. A higher score means you speak that Life Language more fluently or with less effort. Just like you can have varying degrees of fluency in foreign languages, your Language scores show your fluency in each Life Language. Language scores are different from your Overall Intensity which shows your overall passion, energy, and effort you are likely to display in your communication regardless of your Life Languages' order. Gap Gap is the distance from one Life Language to the next Language in your KLLP. For example, if your Responder score is 70 and your Doer score is 60, those two Languages have a Gap of 10. The greater the Gap, the more effort or intention it takes to move from speaking one Life Language to the other. The smaller the Gap, the easier it is to move between the two Life Languages and the greater responsibility one has to be clear when communicating and shifting from one Life Language to another. Your Accumulated Range – Moderate Range is the difference or distance between your Primary and Seventh Life Languages. Add up the Gap scores between each Language (or subtract the 7th Language score from the 1st Language score) to find your total Range. You will also want to note the Gap score between each Language and how the Range increases with each descending Language to give you the above score. Your Range score is considered Moderate. A high or low score is neither better nor worse, though very meaningful. A High Range means that you tend to stand out in your Primary Language and have a more definable behavior and communication style. However, you may have more difficulty communicating with those who speak your weaker Languages. Someone with a Low Range might be able to communicate easily with all the Languages, but may be less predictable and understandable to others, and sometimes even to themselves. The failure to understand Range is one of the primary causes of communication difficulties. Your Overall Intensity – High (86) Your Intensity Level is High. Your Intensity score reveals the strength, energy, and passion you have for communication. The higher your Intensity, the higher your drive to communicate and the more effort you put into it. High Intensity often means you will fight for your opinion to be considered and to exercise control (whether directly or indirectly). You will do more to maintain communication and relationships. You may also be more prone to conflict. People with High Intensity tend to draw attention. People with Low Intensity generally do not compete to be heard, although they may have valuable contributions to make and are sometimes overlooked or ignored. HUYNH BAO HAN TRAN - 10/21/2020 ©Life Languages International™ Page 4 Your Primary Life Language: Shaper 68 (High) Kendall Life Languages Profile™ Shaper Summary – Cognitive Intelligence Category As one who speaks High Shaper, you tend to be organized, visionary, focused, delegating, strategic, intentional, and efficient. The High Shaper Life Language generally has the ability to plan, organize, and manage many activities simultaneously. You think and plan for both the long and short-term. It is not unusual for those who speak High Shaper to have well thought out five, ten, and even twenty year goals. You like to organize your life using charts and timelines. You are a visionary with the ability to see the necessary steps of action that are required to reach your goal and turn your vision into a reality. You can be very focused on goals and projects, and you use your time efficiently. Worldwide You are generally quite articulate, especially when it comes to sharing your plans and vision. Usually you can do this in a very persuasive manner, ensuring that others catch your vision. You tend to be rather private about your emotions except with a few special people. About 19% of the population speaks Shaper as their Primary Life Language. When working on your plans, you instinctively know who is best suited for a position. You are good at delegating tasks, supervising people, and placing the right person in the right job. You also most likely enjoy developing others and helping them reach their full potential. You tend to size up situations, gather facts while analyzing the pros and cons, then make quality decisions that result in success. You do not necessarily seek out leadership, but it often finds you. When it comes, you most likely do not take it for selfish or egotistical reasons. You want the organization, team, or project to succeed. You are a good team player as long as the leadership and boundaries are well defined. If there is no designated leader, you will typically assume that position, as leadership comes quite naturally for you. Those who speak High Shaper generally have no problem being accountable, and you want others to be accountable as well. You look for measurable results. Attitudes and behavior that are not mission-related are frustrating to you. You are goal-oriented, sometimes to the point of being driven. At times you may seem aloof as you withdraw to plan and set goals. You can talk easily about ideas, issues, concepts, and plans, but you generally consider small talk a waste of time. You like intellectual stimulation, and you do not enter into sharing emotions easily. Although the Shaper Life Language is a Cognitive Language, you can set the course of action as well. You think, plan, then move those you are leading into action with a determination for success. You hope and expect others to be sensitive to your time and pressures. As long as the project or goal gets accomplished, those who speak Shaper in a healthy way do not care who gets the credit. You are comfortable in the limelight, but you are equally comfortable behind the scenes pulling the strings. You tend to share the credit for a successful project with the family or the team. You enjoy seeing others as useful and valuable. You usually have a great deal of self-confidence and should not need applause to feel good about yourself. HUYNH BAO HAN TRAN- 10/21/2020 ©Life Languages International™ Page 5 Your Primary Life Language: Shaper 68 (High) Kendall Life Languages Profile™ Once a project is on the road to completion, you may prefer to delegate the ongoing maintenance to others so you can pursue new goals and challenges. Those who speak Shaper tend to get bored with routine jobs and prefer the challenge of something new. You prefer to lead rather than manage. Those who speak High Shaper are usually unrelenting as they determine their vision, chart their course, and stay focused on their goals and plans until they are successful. They stick with it until the goal is reached and the vision is a reality. Then, they tend to move on to the next goal or project. Those who speak High Shaper usually pursue excellence in their dress and appearance as well as in their homes and offices. You are gifted with greatness. Celebrate the fact that you are organized, visionary, focused, delegating, strategic, intentional, and efficient. The Shaper Icon Each icon reveals the story of that Life Language. You will see the characteristics designed within the picture. If the icon was all you had, you could study it and understand a great deal about the particular communication style of that Life Language. The Shaper Life Language is in the Cognitive Intelligence Category. ■ Central Icon – The Shaper Central Icon is the head with multiple pieces of the plan all top-of-the-mind. This sums up the Shaper Life Language in a most accurate way. These are the men and women who will think before they feel or act. ■ Name – The way the Shaper name is printed indicates how Shapers function in their careers and relationships. The name Shaper is slanted upward, because career-wise, they progressively move up to greater and greater success and leadership. Healthy Shapers usually have excellent relationships if they learn to guard them and not let growth and success overshadow them. ■ Head - Cognitive Intelligence Category– At the top of the Shaper icon is a small head, which represents the cognitive or thinking category. These are the men and women who will think before they feel or act. ■ Chess Board– Shapers tend to see the whole picture, planning their steps of action from beginning, through the middle phases, all the way to the end, just as a chess player would. They start with the end in HUYNH BAO HAN TRAN- 10/21/2020 ©Life Languages International™ Page 6 Your Primary Life Language: Shaper 68 (High) Kendall Life Languages Profile™ mind. They tend to be global in their approach with big dreams and visions. Shapers play the game of life strategically with success and ease. The hand is also holding a most strategic piece in the game of chess, the knight. This represents the Shaper’s ability to enjoy working with other strong leaders without intimidation or threat and their desire to develop every person to his or her highest potential. ■ A - Z – To the Shaper Life Language, one must always see the end at the beginning. The Shaper begins by visualizing the end, then moves back to A and incrementally charts the course forward to reach the goal and achieve the plan. The line under A Z is not a straight line–the way forward usually isn't, and the Shaper Life Language knows this. They have great patience to wait and work for the plan and the goal. ■ Globe– The Shaper Life Language sees the big picture. They understand that if you lose sight of the big picture, you get entangled in the details and miss the goal. The Shaper knows how to keep the global picture, parts, players, and pieces all in view much like an astronaut being able to see the whole world from galactic space. ■ Charts and Graphs– The chart represents the Shaper’s ability to plan, organize, strategize, and prioritize. Shapers chart their course by their dreams and plans. Shapers are successful because of their ability to make and develop plans, manage people, and bring together resources. The graph on the chart shows the upward mobility of the Shaper’s goals, plans, and life. ■ Compass– This strategic Life Language is a skilled leader and knows that sometimes things move off course. The strategic focus of the Shaper will use the plans, the goals, the stats, and the numbers like a compass to know exactly how to move the plan back onto the path to completion. Shaper Shaper Keys for Success Filter “Do you have a plan?” Need Support & Agreement Passion To Lead Key Character Strength Patience (for the plan) Filter Each Life Language has an internal filter that screens incoming and outgoing communication. The internal filter is like wearing colored glasses. The Shaper’s color is royal blue (indigo), so imagine that you see the world through that color’s sensitive filter. The Shaper’s Filter is, “What is your plan, and are you working it?” Shapers look and listen to everyone to see and hear if the other person has a plan. They generally have low tolerance for people who waste time, or seem to be meandering through life without a plan or purpose. A more positive approach for the Shaper could be to choose a conscious paradigm shift, turning the filter question into a statement of celebration: “You can be part of my plan,” or “I'll be glad to help you develop your plan.” This fits with the Shaper ability to develop people. Need From Others – Support and Agreement Each Life Language has needs that are met through personal and professional relationships. People who speak Shaper feel loved, valued, and motivated by receiving from others Support and Agreement. They are not looking for a “yes person” who agrees with everything, rather, they want support for good plans and agreement of shared values, goals, purpose, and destiny. Genuine compatibility of goals and direction is very important to them. Because Shapers are generally in leadership roles, and leaders are often targets of criticism, they need the security and calm of safe, supportive relationships. HUYNH BAO HAN TRAN- 10/21/2020 ©Life Languages International™ Page 7 Your Primary Life Language: Shaper 68 (High) Kendall Life Languages Profile™ Passion – To Lead Passion is the spark that makes your life worth living. There is a Passion that motivates each Life Language and gives direction to their communication style. The Shaper’s Passion is To Lead, and Shapers lead others automatically and naturally through planning and delegating. The Healthy Shaper’s Passion To Lead is a gift to be shared. Key Character Strength – Patience Each Life Language has many outstanding character strengths, but one is the primary or Key Character Strength and generally most pronounced. Patience is the Key Character Strength of the Shaper Life Language. Patience is defined as quiet, steady perseverance and even-tempered care. Those who speak Shaper focus their patience towards the long-term plan and the development of people towards greater levels and efficiency to keep a steady pace towards the goal. Though the goal remains 5, 10, or 20 years down the road, patience will assure that Shapers and their teams will reap the rewards of their strategic planning. Shaper Essential Qualities to Develop The following two qualities may not come naturally to you but are indispensable to your overall success in life. Develop and safeguard these qualities to demonstrate maturity and healthy character. Choosing to cultivate them will make a positive difference in your life and help you succeed. First Essential Quality to Develop – Sensitivity The first Essential Quality for the Shaper to develop is Sensitivity, especially to the emotional needs of people around you. As a Shaper who keeps in mind the big picture, it is easy for you at times to overlook the needs and feelings others, even people who may be responsible for helping you reach your goals. You will find great fulfillment as you develop sensitivity toward others, and your success in life will be enhanced as you display this Essential Trait. Second Essential Quality is Relax, Reflect, and Relate The second Essential Quality for the Shaper to cultivate is Learn to Relax, Reflect, and Relate. Leaders who speak Shaper visualize final results and develop people, plans, and resources for the successful completion of goals. A Shaper enjoys expansive leadership roles, delegates, and holds each person accountable for their part. Exceptional Shaper Leaders have learned and implemented their Essential Qualities of Sensitivity and Learning to Relax, Reflect, and Relate. You attempt not to ask or require more of others than you require of yourself. The higher your Mover score is, the more of a risk taker and innovator you will be. You are good at expressing your beliefs, desires, and opinions, as well as putting them into action. When you believe in something, you have both the inclination and the ability to get involved. When needed, you can take charge or lead. Because you can be assertive when you choose to be, you may find yourself occasionally impatient with those who are slower to act or make decisions. There are times when you are a visionary who can be innovative, pioneering, and bold. And when it is important to you, you can show courage for the things and people you care about. Your KLLP™ indicates that you speak Moderate Contemplator. This means you will have some of the Contemplator characteristics, some of the time, and especially when you choose to access them. You may structure some of your time and protect it. Even if you enjoy being social, there may be times you pull away to be alone and refreshed. Approximately 14% of the population speaks Contemplator as their Primary Life Language™. Worldwide When life seems too busy, you can move into the peaceful and calm nature of the Moderate Contemplator. Your reaction to most situations is determined by your higher Life Languages, but remember that you can access and speak the Moderate Contemplator Life Language when needed in order to connect with someone who speaks Contemplator as his or her Primary Life Language. You have good reasoning abilities. You are inquisitive and like to collect information. You are probably a lifelong learner, especially of things you are interested in. You are generally loyal to employers, employees, friends, family, and traditions. You are valuable to any organization where your skills of thinking, information gathering, loyalty, and truth are important. As one who speaks Moderate Contemplator, there may be times when you are somewhat nocturnal, and you may have the unusual sense of humor of a Contemplator. As you embrace this unique Life Language, you will discover that the character qualities of a Moderate Contemplator add depth and dimension to your communication style. You should be able to communicate with those who speak High Contemplator with relative ease as you learn to recognize when others are speaking this peaceful and calm Life Language. Your KLLP™ indicates that you speak Moderate Responder. This means that you will have some of the Responder characteristics some of the time. Because you speak Responder moderately, you can choose to access and operate in the positive Responder qualities that are such valuable strengths in today's hurting world. You tend to prefer peaceful relationships and conditions. Conflict probably bothers you, but by disengaging from it, you can retain personal peacefulness. This can give you the ability to be a good negotiator or mediator. Whether developed or not, it is within you to be creative and imaginative. You can find joy in the creative expression of your feelings and thoughts. Look for ways to express yourself creatively. About 33% of the population speaks Responder as their Primary Life Language. Worldwide You will have occasions when you can freely show warmth and affection with pats on the back and hugs. However, you probably will not be that way all the time with everyone. Those who speak Moderate Responder usually realize when this is appropriate and when it could be misunderstood, such as in the workplace. You look for the best in others and give them the benefit of the doubt, but you are equally capable of seeing their faults and usually neither surprises you. One of your strong character qualities is compassion, yet because you speak Responder moderately, you may be selective in who you show compassion to, generally choosing those in your immediate circle, or those who are hurting who you can relate to. You can be an effective leader whom others want to follow because they know you care. In leadership positions, you will generally be protective and supportive and rescue those in need. Of all the 7 Life Languages™, those who speak Responder possibly have the greatest potential for good because they care so deeply for others. They impact and play a role in your overall communication but do not determine your communication style. The following Indicators are scored High, Moderate, and Low. These scales differ from your 7 Life Languages™ scales, as Indicators may change through life experiences and choices. Indicator Score Result 1. Acceptance Level 15 Low 2. Interactive Style Balanced 72 High 3. Internal Control 43 Moderate 4. Intrusion Level 29 Low 5. Projective Level 30 Low 6. Susceptibility to Stress 29 Low Visual 42 Moderate Physical 29 Moderate Auditory 29 Moderate 7. Learning Preference Order 1. Acceptance Level This scale measures how you tend to view yourself–whether you more easily see your strengths and positive attributes, your weaknesses and negative qualities, or a balance between the two, easily and honestly seeing both your negative and positive qualities. Your Acceptance Level – Low (15) A Low Acceptance Level means that you tend to be more introspective and aware of your weaknesses than your strengths or positive attributes. You have many positive attributes and can choose to identify and develop awareness of them, although you will usually have to work through the negatives to get there. Positive input about you from others possibly makes you uncomfortable. By focusing more on your strengths, positive attributes, and successes, you can raise a Low Acceptance Level. It may be easier for you to see the positive things about others than it is to see your own. You may be very open and sometimes perhaps too open to advice and counsel, trusting others’ insights more confidently than your own. 2. Interactive Style This scale indicates how comfortable you are with people most of the time. The KLLP™ measures Introvert, Balanced and Extrovert somewhat differently from other measurements; it measures preference HUYNH BAO HAN TRAN - 10/21/2020 ©Life Languages International™ Page 17 Making the most of your KLLP™ Kendall Life Languages Profile™ rather than overall behavior. For example, it measures whether you prefer working alone or in groups, or working with those you know or do not know. As another example, a person who scores as an Introvert on the KLLP™ may seem outgoing and somewhat extroverted to those he or she knows well, but will be less verbal, outgoing, and interactive with strangers or acquaintances. Your Interactive Style – Balanced (72) Your KLLP™ indicates that you generally do not want to work alone all the time, nor do you want to work with others all the time. You prefer to balance your activity between the two. Although you can be a self starter and work alone, you can also be a team player. However, doing one all the time to the exclusion of the other could potentially cause you stress and distress. There will probably be times when you go from one extreme to the other. You can work behind the scenes, or when called upon, you can move more toward the stage center. Neither is compulsive. Overall this helps you be more flexible than many because you are comfortable in most settings. 3. Internal Control Level This scale indicates how you see yourself in the area of self-discipline or self-governing vs. spontaneity or impulsiveness. Generally speaking, if we have high Internal Control, we are less prone to being externally controlled, either by others, circumstances, or experiences. The higher our Internal Control, the more disciplined we are, and the lower our Internal Control the more flexible and spontaneous we are. Your Internal Control Level – Moderate (43) A Moderate Internal Control level suggests a relative balance between being self-governed and selfdisciplined vs. spontaneous and flexible. This score indicates that you can choose to be selfdisciplined when needed or to put aside tasks when appropriate, for example, when someone or a situation interjects itself. Maintaining a healthy balance in this area is probably relatively easy for you, and a goal all of us can seek. 4. Intrusion Level This scale measures how you see yourself handling unexpected interruptions, intrusions, interference, outside stimuli, and people or situations foreign to you. Your Intrusion Level indicates how comfortable and tolerant you are with distractions and differences. Some people like a more structured environment, and others flow more easily with uninvited or unscheduled people or situations. Regardless of our Intrusion score, we can all form the good habit of communicating gently and kindly when intrusions become an issue. Your Intrusion Level – Low (29) A Low Intrusion Level indicates that you have a lower level of comfort and tolerance for the ups and downs of life. Interruptions, intrusions, unexpected circumstances, and outside interferences tend to test your patience and may even be an irritation. Differences in others can be distracting, and you may want to guard yourself against seeming impatient, critical, or sending unfavorable signals that HUYNH BAO HAN TRAN - 10/21/2020 ©Life Languages International™ Page 18 Making the most of your KLLP™ Kendall Life Languages Profile™ appear to be judgmental. A Low Intrusion Level can help you to stay focused on tasks, but you may want to make sure you sincerely and gently express yourself without projecting a dismissive attitude that could be hurtful to others. 5. Projective Indicator This scale indicates how important other’s perception and opinion is to you. For example: a person with a high projective score could be greatly concerned if others had a less than positive opinion of them. A person with a low score would probably shrug it off and not let it bother them. A balance between high and low is valuable because it lets you objectively evaluate others' attitudes about you and remain teachable. Your Projective Level – Low (30) A Low Projective Level suggests that if others are indifferent to you or even disrespectful, you can probably shrug it off. The opinions of others do not generally impact your attitude or activities. An extremely Low Projective Level can cause others to possibly see you as indifferent, not easily motivated by others, and unconcerned about others’ opinions. Generally, you do what you want to, without a great deal of concern. This tends to make you not overly subjected to peer pressure. 6. Susceptibility to Stress This scale measures your vulnerability to stress that comes into your life. Stress happens to everyone and comes from various sources, even from having too many good things going on at one time. We are more susceptible to stress when we are too busy, lacking sleep, not feeling well, fatigued, frustrated, lacking exercise, and even unable to express ourselves adequately. Failure to handle stress properly can cause us to move into one or more of the Distress Levels of our Life Languages, but we can learn to recognize our stress and do what is necessary to de-stress. Distress, by Life Languages definition, is when you respond negatively to any situation. One key to avoid distress is to H.A.L.T: Avoid stressful situations when your are H-hungry, A-angry, L-lonely, or T-tired. Your Susceptibility to Stress – Low (29) A Low Susceptibility to Stress indicates that, when in stressful situations or when dealing with problems or crises, you tend to remain calm rather than overly excited or even panicked. You most likely respond to challenging or unpleasant situations in the same way you would respond to normal circumstances. By allowing stress to pass over you, it is not likely to be a factor in causing you to descend into your Distress Levels. On the other hand, people who have a Low Susceptibility to Stress may be less aware of danger and may not notice that something is different or amiss like a hyper-vigilant, High Susceptibility to Stress person would. HUYNH BAO HAN TRAN - 10/21/2020 ©Life Languages International™ Page 19 Making the most of your KLLP™ Kendall Life Languages Profile™ 7. Learning Preference There are three basic Learning styles: Auditory, Visual, and Physical. Everyone learns in all three ways, but usually one will come more naturally to you, and you will have a preference for it if you have the choice. It will usually be the best and easiest way for you to gain new knowledge or sharpen your skills. Your Learning Preference – Visual (42) Your Profile indicates that you are a Visual learner. You tend to think in pictures. For example, when learning something new or learning how to do something, you prefer to see the item, equipment, or at least a picture or diagram. The visual picture stays with you. If you can see it as you learn, you remember it. When you hear or read information, you usually translate it into a visual “picture” in your mind. When someone tells you a story, you often hear it “visually”, the words become pictures. You probably also read body language and facial expressions well. Watching instruction-based media would be a valuable method of learning for you. Another way to help you understand the communication style of others who have not taken the KLLP™ is to try and determine their Category: Do they feel first (Emotive Category), think first (Cognitive Category), or act first (Kinetic Category)? Do they say things like: “I feel that this just isn’t the thing to do,” or “I think that we should consider...,” or “Let’s do it! Why stand around?” Once you have determined their Category, you can respond accordingly by using action, feeling or thinking words and see what a difference that makes.
