Name: Course Instructor: Course: Date: RACISM AND THE MEDIA A good research proposal is one that takes a narrow trajectory and provides conclusive research of the subject. It will be remiss of me to write a research proposal on the 'media industry' without defining the same. Michelle Hilmes provided, “the media industry covers a huge slice of territory ranging over, print, sound, screen, and digital bits in space, in venues as various as corporate communications, advertising, websites, novels, films, recordings, and music being shared person to person on the internet (Hilmes, ‘Nailing Mercury: The Problem of Media Industry Historiography.’ p. 1).” The research is going to focus on the contribution of the media industry in the fight against racism. This will be done by tracing the origin of broadcasting from as early as the 1920s when the National Broadcasting Company was providing the foundation for broadcasting (Hilmes, ‘NBC America's Network’ p. 7). The research will use Holt, J., and A. Perren’s article, Media industries: History, theory, and method and other materials in showing what the media industry has done throughout that time up to date. The research will then focus on a recent form of media called social media. It will highlight how social media is a tool that can be used to win the war on racism or be the weapon that can destroy all efforts in the fight against racism (AlDeen and Hendricks, ‘Social media: Usage and impact'). According to Winston, “social media users enjoy a lot of freedom which if not strategically regulated may result in propagation of racism (Winston, 2012, p. 12).” Works Cited Al-Deen, H. S., and J.
