Introduction
Women from different ethnic backgrounds are entering the workforce, especially in
management positions. Therefore, there is a need to redefine effective leadership in terms of
gender as well as role expectations. It is important to consider how gender relates to
leadership. Gender is a characteristic relevant to how individuals think about themselves and
others in different situations. Women are presented very poorly in leadership positions. Many
women are employed, but very few occupy managerial positions because there is a belief that
men are better leaders than women. The impact of gender on leadership is often presumed to
be less competent and less worthy to take leadership positions. It is difficult to give an exact
evaluation of the extent to which gender affects how people lead. The fact remains that men
and women differ in communication, self-efficacy, perception, and attitude toward achieving
a certain goal. This paper discusses the gender differences that have been subjecting women
to lesser opportunities than men to leadership positions.
