Week 1: Role of the Translator for Research and Evidence-Based Practice
The topic of this week is an eye-opener for a DNP learner to understand the importance
of Translational Research and Evidence-Based Practice in nursing practice. One of the
noteworthy aspects of the week that were learned is the close relationship between Translation
research and Evidence-Based Practice. Translation research is a relatively new field of
investigation that is quickly growing. Most healthcare practices follow evidence-based
guidelines in the delivery of care however, not all practices are routine. A gap exists in the use of
evidence-based practice where there are limited recommendations and applications to improve
patient care and population health leading to poor health outcomes. Therefore, Translation
research comes into play in eradicating the constraints faced in Evidence-Based Practice. It is
now clear to DNP learners that translation research tests implementation of interventions to boost
the efficacy of Evidence-Based Practices thus improve population health and patient outcomes.

The topic was an instrument for the furtherment of nursing practice for DNP learners. It
prepared the learner to incorporate nursing science into the psychological and analytical
sciences. With the understanding of translation research and Evidence-Based Practice, the
learner has the potential to derive viable solutions that will improve the quality of nursing
practice. The adoption of Evidence-Based Practice reflects the importance of science-based
concepts when evaluating and improving health care delivery as well as focusing on positive
