Health insurance is an insurance cover that covers the insured against any heath care expenses as
long as the subscription to the cover is still active. The insurance is paid to the insurer by the
employed individuals as premiums. It often depends on the insurer and the type of cover that the
insured party has subscribed to, at times it may depend on the employer. As per the American
health insurance association, health insurance is outlined as "coverage that gives for the
payments of advantages as a results of illness or injury. It includes insurance for losses from
accident, disbursal, disability, or accidental death and torturing.
The amount of health insurance needed by any insured individuals will depend on numerous
reasons. All the same there is an average amount that every individual should at least have to
receive good quality of health insurance. It is quite hard to specifically name the amount. Different
insurers will offer different types of health insurance policies at different prices. Furt hermore, the
policies will change in price depending on the number of people insured, the heath conditions of
the insured and the occupations. The price changes will change due to this effect since they play a
role in the heath and expenses of treatment. The major variants that will determine the cost of
health insurance are; heath condition, occupation, the salary, the length of the cover in terms of
time, the number of people covered by the cover.
The heath condition will determine the cost of a health insurance policy due to the fact that, a
heathy person will rarely go to the hospital and if he does the cost of treatment will be lower
compared to a less healthy person. On the other hand, for a less healthy person, there will be more
visits to the hospital and the cost for treatment will be quite high. Hence the insurance company
will often need to know the health history of a person before they sign a policy with them
(MacDonald, 2016).
