demand for better payments and other financial benefits. When workers are paid well their
purchasing power will increase and these help in driving the economy. An economy with having
consumers with a high purchasing power will survive recession and inflation (Berman &
Machin, p.21).
The second benefit of unions is they help in negotiating for increased wages for workers.
When workers are compensated adequately, they are motivated to improve their performance
and this serves to improve productivity in the economy.
Effects of technological change on U.S unionization
Technological change in the U.S has impelled residents to either advance their education
so as to develop the skills they have or to further look for employment which calls for human
