Astor Piazzolla and His New Tango
New tango, also known as Nuevo tango, is a form of music that incorporates new
elements fused to the traditional tango music that started to develop in the 1980s. Before tango
music evolved, the dance involved teaching styles that instructed the students to copy moves
examples shown by the instructors. The instructors did not emphasize explaining why or how
they made or taught the movements in a specific style. In the 1990s, a group formed to
investigate more on the dance style applied new interesting techniques (Kosichev, 2019). They
applied the principle of modern dance to analyze physics and the movements made during the
dance to make it have meaning and a more modernized touch. The new method brought about a
shift in tango music by employing a method of teaching the students how to dance rather than
