Migration flows and trends in the international and intercontinental sector
Following the history of migration in Europe, America, and Asia, there come out with

common aspects regarding the pattern of movement of the migrating population. For instance, in
most of the European countries, modernization led to the mass movement of the population from
the countryside regions to the urban areas. This decline of population in the rural regions is
attributed to urbanization which awakened the static societies in the European countries to venture
to the cities in search of employment opportunities. Apart from the international migratory habits,
there were large numbers of European nationals, approximately 50–60 million who migrated to
Oceania and American continents.
Right after the second world war, migration became a serious issue to the European
countries. This is because there was a high level of immigration due to decolonization. During this
era, a massive movement of slaves from North Africa moved to European countries such as Britain,
Germany, France, Belgium, and Portugal. The moving population was referred to as guest workers
who were useful for their cheap labor. For instance, in the 1950s, most of the immigrants to Great
Britain and Germany consisted of guest workers who were primarily low-skilled laborers who
