Information Technology
Information technology is a means of sharing information or data using computers among
other electronic devices. It is widely used by various organizations, including businesses in
solving effective operation, through coordination and problem-solving. It assists in providing
effective solutions for different complex issues experienced or involved in an organization
(Seetha, 2018). The document elaborates on various information technology equipment, and
practices like emails, services, networking, and various computer hardware. It also contains
information on software, control panel, cloud, and web browser.

Networking
Networking is the process through which people exchange information through a
grouping of two or more computers to share information and resources since computers can
communicate with each other over a given network. Networking devices are equipment that is
used to connect computers over a given network to share information. Some of the devices
include bridges, network switches, network hubs, modems and networks routers. Network
topology is the general manner in which the link and nodes of a given network are arranged to
relate to each other. It assists individuals by visualizing the communicating devices, models,
nodes, and connection.
There are various types of wires and each of them has specific advantage or disadvantage
as stated below. Wires are strands used to ferry telecommunication waves

Solid- It is usually surrounded by protective sheathing.

Fuse Wire- Fuse wire has a low resistance to allow normal current to pass safely through
it. Electric fuse wire is a solid wire made of an alloy with a low melting point.

Magnet Wire- Magnet wire that is enameled it to be very tightly coiled.

4

Stranded- Stranded wire is more flexible and has a higher resistance to metal fatigue
than solid wire. It is used for circuit board and assembly or servicing.

Tinsel Wire- Tinsel wire is a type of electrical wire that is far more resistant to metal
fatigue than solid wire or other kinds of stranded wire, (Ch Seetha Ram, 2018).

Braided- Braided wire is composed of multiple small strands of wire that are braided
together. They don’t easily break when flexed.
Generally, stranded wire is the best kind of wire compared to the rest of the wires due to

its many advantages and properties.

How to Install or Configure a Wire Correctly
There are eight basic steps through which a person can install or configure a wire
correctly. The first step involves striping the cable jacket, about 1.5 inches. After that, the four
pairs of wire are being spread apart (Fadell et al., 2018). At this point, you can use pull string in
striping the jacket. The third step involves untwisting the wires and aligning them in the T568B
orientation. After that, the wire is cut straight at about 0.5 inches then inserting them into the
modular connector. At that point, you have to ensure each wire passes appropriately. The next
step is to push the connector inside the crimping tool. The next and last step requires a person to
repeat the whole process from one to six then terminate each end of the cable.

Addresses Used in Networking
A network address is an identifier for a node or host on a telecommunications network. There
are four levels of addresses used in networking, namely:

Physical address,

Application-specific address,

Port address,

5

Logical address.

Server
A server is a centralized computer that connects with other computers as their host, and
those computers become clients of it. A server helps in providing the computers with
information, data or connectivity to the internet (Zheng et a., 2020).
Types of servers

Database servers

File servers

Virtual servers

Proxy servers

Monitoring and Management Serves
Use of a server

1. Connectivity is very easy with the use of servers
2. Collaboration is greatly enhanced by servers.
3. Faster expansion is witnessed with the use of servers.
4. It Allows backup systems that are automated
5. Adds Reliability
6. A Server Gives Scalability
7. Servers usually have more processing power, memory and storage than client
A lot of information about the server is a tout from the server room, detailing how to
maintain it by troubleshooting various types of server error codes, in case they occur. There are
five types of error codes with the common HTTP error codes. In a local network, a server is

6

always connected to a router or switch used by other electronic devices like the computer or
laptop. Users always connect through the use of a domain name.

Computer Hardware
These are basically the physical parts of a computer such as the keyboard, the monitor,
the CPU, the speakers, the mouse and the printers.
Computer components
1. Motherboard-it is used to house the various inbound parts of a computer
2. Graphics Card-Helps in generating the images and video displayed on the monitor.
3. Monitor ports- Are used to provide attachment points for monitors.
4. Hard drive-IT is used to store data.
5. Processor-It is the brains of the personal computer and runs all the different functions.
6. The computer uses networking Cards-They to connect to the internet.
7. USB Ports-Are used to attach cables, phones and other accessories to the computer.
De-Assemble and Re-Assemble of a Computer
De-assembling a computer refers to the act of breaking down a given device in several
parts. Normally, it is done when a problem should be determined or a need to replace a certain
past. There are basic easy steps through which a computer device can be de-assembled. Reassembling it the act of fixing back the various parts of the device (Lothman 2018).
Software
Software is a set of instructions, data used by computers to give them a sense of direction on
what to do., (Seetha, 2018).
Types of (OS) That Are Used

7

There are three main operating systems that are mostly used, they include MacOS, Linux and
Microsoft.
Differentiation Between Them
Linux is a specially designed code meant to be public and accessible to anyone for
modification or change of code. The difference between them is the fact that Mac depends on a
BSD code, whereas Linux is an independent development that is derived from a Unix-like
system. In comparison, Mac focuses on the graphical user interface while Microsoft developed
the Windows operating system. In terms of a file structure, windows do follow a directory
structure in storing various files on the user while the file structure of Mac is known as MacOS,
its hard disk has many directories. Linux, on the other hand, stores data in different forms of
trees.
Control panel
The Control Panel is a specially designed component in your computer that houses different
commands that are essential for the efficient functionality of the machine.
Systems and security
Systems and security is found in the control panel and is used to ensure the security of your
personal computer.
Systems restore
System restore is a feature under the control panel that is used to reset your PC to the previous
state it was beforehand.
User accounts and family safety
It is used under settings to create or change different accounts on your PC whereas family
safety ensures privacy and safe browsing.

8

Web browsers
A web browser is a specially designed software/application that is used to access the
internet on the world web. Some of the common web browsers include
Types mentioned
Some of the common web browsers include Opera, Internet Explorer, Safari, Google
Chrome, Mozilla, and Firefox.
Settings (Chrome):
Helps to control how Chrome performs and accesses different websites.
Extensions
They will let you personalize your net-surfing revel in via adding functionality with the press of
a mouse.
Privacy and security
Privacy Settings extension keeps all the built-in privacy and security related settings in one
place.

Internet options (internet explorer)
It is a web browser that incorporates various key features and settings to help bring a great
experience of web browsing.
General
The General tab of the Internet Properties dialog box contains settings that affect the appearance
of Internet Explorer and any other application that relies on it.

Clouds
The cloud is a means of data storage through the internet. Files of any type or format can
be stored online and accessed from anywhere with internet access. Some of the companies that

9

offer cloud services include Alibaba Cloud, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, Google Cloud,
Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Oracle. The most used cloud is Google Drive.
Features of file sharing
1. File transferred can be of any given amount since they are not limited.
2. File sharing ensures safe data-keeping.

Email (Personal and business)
Emails are a means of sharing messages and information through the internet. They are
the modern-day post offices whereby anyone can send and receive information at the shortest
time. There are two types of emails, personal and business. Unlike the free personal email,
business emails, also known as corporate emails, are maintained and paid for by the
organization.

One Drive- One drop is one feature of emails that allows for files to be stored in the
cloud and accessed at any given time from anywhere with internet availability.
