Introduction

In the American society, sexual abuse of children and youth is still a major concern.
Child sexual abuse can be contact or non-contact (Bolen, 2001). In contact abuse, the abuser
touches the child inappropriately and this includes sexual penetration. On the other hand,
exploitation, grooming and influencing children to participate in sexual acts are regarded as nontouching activities, which translate to non-contact abuse. Perpetrators also use the Internet as a
platform of making and downloading sexual images of children. They use children for sexual
stimulation. Children are considered vulnerable people in the society so molesters take advantage
of this aspect and lure them into sexual activities (Bolen, 2001). According to experts, very few
cases are reported to the authorities yet the prevalence is alarming. In addition, there are risk
factors, and certain myths as well as characteristics of perpetrators and it is important to
understand them so that responsible adults can determine proper prevention measures. Every
