AUTHORITY IN THE FAMILY STRUCTURE
Language is used in the family setting to communicate different ideas and to pass on
information or commands. It allows for human beings to express their feelings, their opinions
and their beliefs to other members of the society. In my family, authority has been expressed
through language situations like express commands whereby, my parents tend to give commands
and orders through language and the commands are followed or are adhered to. Often times,
when we gather together even for dinner or when we hold family meetings; my father being the
head of the family tends to dominate the meetings. He is the dominant speaker and he chairs all
the meetings.
