One example of an adaptation that allow organisms to survive in their environment is the ability to hide from predation. If a mouse is camouflaged with his environment (for example a tan mouse in the desert), he not as likely to be found (and eaten) by a predator as a black mouse in a desert. The mouse's fur color is an adaptation that allows it to survive.
