The world faces abundant challenges that prevent it from the recognition of the common good. The major subjects include poverty, gender inequality, climate change, and education inequality. Because of these problem’s adverse implications, the United Nations (UN) created seventeen sustainable developmental goals focused on lessening the associated adverse effects and achieving the common good (United Nations. , 2020). End poverty in all its forms everywhere is a UN sustainable development goal enhancing the attainment of a common good through the provision and accessibility to fundamental needs like food, water, financial aid, and training. UN Sustainable Development Goal and Common Good Sustainable development goal (SDG) 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere comprise the United Nations (UN) sustainable development goal selected for analysis in this assignment. I selected this goal since I aspire to be a UN Coordinator dealing with poverty alleviation programs. Researching this particular SDG will prepare me with substantial knowledge helpful to my future profession. The SDG 1 focuses on eliminating poverty by integrating interrelated approaches such as social protection system promotions, decent employment, and the poor's resilience by 2030 (United Nations. , 2020) .Currently, there are about 700 million living in extreme poverty of $1.90 a day. As noted earlier, eliminating the adverse implications of concerns such as poverty can require empowering society towards a common good. (UNESCO. , 2015)defined the common good as efforts that are beneficial to many people or the entire world. The SGD 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere involves an effort to achieve a common good. Poverty affects over 700,000 people globally, meaning that alleviating it through appropriate programs include a demonstration of attaining a common good (United Nations. , 2020). All individuals have a right to access basic needs such as food, shelter, healthcare, education, water, and sanitation. S00265354 If the goal is achieved by 2030, no person will live below $1.90 per day, and poverty will be eliminated. Description of the Local and Global Community The United States comprises the local community where I may work as a future professional. Although the U.S. is among nations not hit by poverty than other countries, the rate stood at 10.5%, constituting about 34 million Americans in 2019 (United Nations. , 2020). Recent reports show that from May-November 2020, the U.S. poverty rate increased to 11.7%, mainly because of the economic impacts of Covid-19, such as a declined assistance for the unemployed (Long, 2020). States with the highest poverty rates include Mississippi, Alabama, New Mexico, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Louisiana. Although the above figures might be lower than the nation’s total population, poverty remains a immense issue in the U.S. and disrupts the common good's achievement. Nigeria needs the global community that I may work in the future. According to the UN reports, about 40.1% of Nigerians live below the poverty line of $361 per year (United Nations. , 2020). States like Taraba and Sokoto have the highest number of people living in poverty (Moshood, 2016). Factors such as unemployment, limited access to resources and opportunities, gender and education inequality, conflicts, and unreachability to clean water contribute to the high Nigeria’s poverty rate (Moshood, 2016) .Working in this country by trying to alleviate poverty would facilitate the attainment of a common good. Current Status of the Goal Generally, there has been positive progress towards the achievement of SDG 1. According to the UN findings, the number of individuals living in poverty declined by 36% in 1990 to 10% in 2015 (United Nations. , 2020) .In 2019, this percentage reduced to 8.2%. However, only 55% of the world’s population can access social protection, signifying an area that has not achieved the desired success. In Nigeria, although remarkable progress in S00265354 eradicating poverty has been made over the past decades, the pace is slow. Currently, about 62.6%, 62.6%, and 42% of Goal 1 indicators 1.1.1, 1.2.1, and 1.2.2, respectively, have been achieved (Moshood, 2016). In other words, Nigeria still has a long way to attaining SDG one since a significant number of its population are living in extreme poverty. The current status of SDG one locally and globally challenges the realization of the common good in specific ways. Firstly, a significant percentage of the people living in poverty in the United States, Nigeria, and the world cannot access basic needs such as food, shelter, healthcare, and clean water, thus derailing the achievement of the common good. They are not enjoying life as others above the poverty line. Secondly, people living in extreme poverty do not have access to social security/protection, making them vulnerable to economic and social problems. Currently, about 55% of the world’s population cannot access social security (United Nations. , 2020). This situation hinders the realization of the common good since many people are not benefiting from social protection. Conclusion To sum up, the world is facing numerous issues that affect people negatively. The United Nations, through the UN Sustainable Development Goals, created specific targets for countries to accomplish by 2030 to eradicate some of the common problems like poverty, hunger, and inequality. The research has shown that although SDG one is doing well towards attaining the common, more still needs to be done in the United States, Nigeria, and the world. S00265354 References Long, H. b.

More needs to be done to achieve the common good both in the local and global
community.

c. Many people live below the poverty line of $1.90 per day in the United States and
