Microsoft Organizational and Ethical Culture
Microsoft Corporation is a major computer software and hardware providers in the world.
Ever since its inception by Bill Gates, the company has grown to become a big competitor in the
computer technology market. As is the case for any other serious organization, the successes of
Microsoft can be attributed to among other factors proper ethical and organizational culture. The
ethical culture of a company is all about how the company conducts itself which includes the
conduct of the employees as well as the management and also how the company treats their
customers. On the other hand, organizational culture is about how the company effectively
carries out all its functions without any of them interfering with the other, which is to mean that
every member of the company is well aware of their functions and as such all the needs of the
customers are usually effectively suited.
To start with, we are going to look at the organizational culture of the company. The
organizational culture of Microsoft Corporation is one which ensures that the staff are resilient
and are also capable of suiting the needs of the fast-changing computer market (Mohr, 1971).
This means that the employees must be flexible to the dynamic nature of the computer market
which ensures that the company is able to effectively compete with the other big players in the
industry. The organizational structure is also meant to increase innovation. For this to be
achieved, the organizational structure of Microsoft has the following features.
1. Quality and Innovation: Being a player in the computer industry, innovation is a key part
of the Microsoft Corporation as they need to adjust to the fast growing industry. For this
reason, the company invests very much on the research department in order to improve
the skills of the workforce who will, in turn, be able to bring something new to the
market. The company also invests highly in the quality of its products which is a very

fundamental consideration by the customers. This is because the last thing that the
company would want is having their products being dubbed sub-standard either by their
customers or even by the critics (Mohr, 1971). The company values innovation so much
so that it actually rewards its employees for any innovation work when they receive credit
from their customers as well as their business partners. This makes the employees
become motivated and increases their competitiveness as far as their innovative skills are
concerned.
2. Accountability: Accountability means the ability of the company, to be honest in their
dealings and to be relied on by both the customers and their business partners. For this
reason, all the employees of the company are expected to understand that they are
responsible and accountable for their actions while working for the company. They are
also made to understand the consequences of all their actions today. This feature also
