Discussion
Realism is one of the most significant art movements of the modern generation. In our
case realism developed as a result of increased changes in industrial and social conditions. It was
influenced by socialism the growing need for science. It is a movement in art that rejected
individualism but majored its concentration on current reality like landscapes among others.
Several characteristics together with possible historical reasons play a vital role for change in
style from Realism to Modern Art movements. The first one is advent of realism. At this point
there is struggle between classicism and romanticism but was later replaced by various forms of
realism. The classical artists use the past, romantic artists tried their luck through imagination

started to learn and as a result he managed to invent machines such as train, telegraph and
telephone hence raising the expectations for the future. Another characteristic is on classicism
whereby in art classicism led to formal academic style as monarchic power united their forces
hence transformation from civilization of agriculture to that of the industries. Landscape painting
is another characteristic whereby transitions based on realities was achieved through landscape
painting and nature. Nature alone provided satisfaction to the realist facing problem since it
offered solutions of naturalism. Lastly is on the diminishing of individualism. Earlier the
importance of a person gad not been credited. Their ambitions were aimed at objectivity which
required their submission. In order to utilize their objectivity fully man was to trust objectivity
only which was not to be attached with any personal feeling. As a result, the new artists referred
