when and why is there no solution to some absolute value equations?

I don't understand

Consider y =2x+4

and 2y =4x+9

2y =4x+9

2y =4x+8

Subtracting

0 =1 which is absurd.

These equations are not consistent.

(in fact these are equations of parallel lines which do not intersect)
