Explain how the expected results of a performance management system designed with a
strong quality orientation can impact employee performance.
A performance management system is a systematic approach used in the measurement of
employee performance in an organization. Performance management is built on various
principles, one of which is quality employee orientation (Gruman & Saks, 2011). Orientation is
an onboarding process that familiarizes an employee with his/her goals in the organization. It
also helps an employee adapt to the structural and cultural environment of the organization.
Employees' performance is highly dependent on how best they are skilled and adapted to
the environment they work in. Quality orientation sharpens the employees' skills enabling them
to perform better. During the orientation programs, the employees are introduced to all the job
requirements (Lawson, 2015). That allows them to match their skills to the job. Perfect matching
of job requirements to the right skills results in high performance. In addition to understanding
the job, quality orientation enables employees to understand its culture and fit into it. That
minimizes the organization's conflicts, resulting in more time being devoted to performance than
conflict resolution resulting from cultural differences. Finally, quality orientation in performance
management enables the employees to understand the organizational structure. That allows them
to work more closely with their supervisors resulting in better performance (Lawson, 2015). It
would be right to conclude that quality orientation results in better employee performance in an
organization.
